Do I need an AR-15 to go to Target

Open Carry Texas is pushing for armaments nearly everywhere. I guess they think we should feel comfortable among obese bearded white guys carrying semi-auto weapons with giant magazines as we shop or dine. It goes without saying, I guess, that as a socially conscious adult I should not show any unease encountering heavily armed black guys with pants hanging a couple of inches below their butts and heavily armed Hispanics with teardrops tattoos on their faces.

If this is the new America, I think I'll spend my free time in Canada.

This is just retarded. I wish the Texas legislature would tackle this issue and make a law regarding this issue. There is no need to tote any type of long arm, either hunting rifle, assault rifle or shotgun in any public setting or arena. Period!

Texas already has a concealed handgun law...isn't that enough??

Actually, in Texas we pretty much already do have the right to carry long guns into a lot of places I don't think appropriate. They just want the rest of us to get "comfortable" with the guy next to you in Starbucks, Chipotle or Target having an AR-15 or deer rifle slung over his/her shoulder to make it seem pretty reasonable for folks to walk around with holstered pistols.

The NRA showed their stripes by backing off from calling this tactic "weird". I'm sure they were worried about dividing their base of support between the "crazies" the rational gun owner.

Third Coasts link provided a very succinct explanation of what Texas Open Carry is up to. They carried long guns into stores, legal, to protest unlicensed folks being unable to carry visible handguns into such establishments.

So they want to anyone to be able to carry a handgun unlicensed? Or does the current concealed firearm laws prevent the from carrying the handgun in plain view?

Seattle, the concealed-carry requires a license and doesn't permit visible display. In my mind, the CHL is not an especially high standard for handling dangerous weaponry in public. The training would be useful and helpful to those who want to capably defend themselves in places with a lot of innocents around.

These open carry groupies are dorks. I liken them to the right's version of the Occupy crowd. Each political party tries to stay as far away from them as possible and hope they duck back into the shadows.

Chango, do you think people are desiring the chance to flee from Texas? Houston and Austin populations seem to be growing like crazy, and a large part of the growth is from outsiders moving in. I'm having a hard time thinking of anyone I know that has moved AWAY from Texas in the past two years, but I know a number of people that have returned back to Texas in the same timeframe.

FWIW, I don't agree with these Open Carry people, but I would give it serious thought if I had to visit the local Target or Walmart near my neighborhood after dark. Not sure if a concealed weapon would give me enough self-defense

I rarely post, particularly on WM. I feel compelled to say this however.....I own and enjoy shooting firearms. It is my right and I am proud that none of my firearms have EVER been pointed at a human being. I do not belong to the NRA or any other "gun group."

Open Carry Texas is an abomination and a completely shameful movement that will not benefit the reasonable firearms owners in the state or the nation. They will hinder more than help, regular people. Go Away OCT!

R35, there are thousands or more pictures of libtards just like you protesting with misspelled words. Should we just all get into a copy and paste war? Maybe we should start a special thread for you and your special friends.

R35 and his friends take the "short bus" to and from this forum.
