DNA clears man convicted of 9 sexual assault cases

I don't understand why anyone would confess to crimes they didn't commit... WTF? Phillips argument doesn't make sense to me.

I also love how it is easy to get someone out of trouble with DNA evidence but harder to convict someone with it.

I think Bill Hill and his mentor (can't recall the name of the DA before him) belong in jail.

They've robbed so many people of their freedom and liberty by hiding evidence and basically being a win at all cost, "tough on crime", damned the consequences attitude.

I'd like to beat the ever living **** out of Bill Hill....what a **********.

I used to do a load of court appt. criminal defense. Whether it was a SJF or a 1st deg. Ag.Sex. Assault, my client was given $350.00 to pay for an investigation into the allegations for his own defense. That's it.

The state, otoh, had as much manpower, resources, access, etc. that they wanted. And they look across smug as ****, and my kid's a 22 y/o black man who's looking at 5 to 99 or life and has heard every conceivable story about how his friends and uncles and who else knows is doing a load of time b/c they decided to ride it out and let a jury decide.

And you seriously wonder why folks who aren't guilty plead guilty?

I hated it....HATED it.....I had to tell them that if they weren't guilty, then I cannot and will not go to the state and cut a deal. I'd have to w/draw and the judge would have to appt. another lawyer to do the deal. And there are many a beat down lawyer out there who's been having this same scenario play out almost daily whose mission in life is to keep someone from bleeding as much as what they could otherwise, who do it with compassion and understanding, and I do understand it. It was damned hard looking some kid in the eye who's crying, frustrating as hell to both of us that we sympathesize w/ one other, respect one antoher, but aren't willing to do what the other requires. And we part ways.

I love the system, but living in your 4/4/2 and saying that you don't understand how someone who isn't guilty could plead guilty is just suburban idealism and exposing how uninformed you are of how messy and sloppy the guts of our democratic judicial engine of are.

And it is a bloody mess on the best days, made infinitely worse if you have a bad, corrupted gatekeeper...a careless, bed-notching district attorney.

Whoever said that the old Dallas Co. DA ought to be tried under RICO, they're right on the mark.

This reminds me of the time Marlo ha Omar framed and Bunk went out and proved Omar hadn't done it but Omar had already nearly been killed in jail and would have been if Butch hadn't sent someguys to protect him.

Indeed.
