DMN uses inverted Hook'em

Hook'em
In this morning edition of DMN theyshowed a hand with the inverted Hook'em and the initials OU on the hand in a report on both TEXAS and OU choirs singing at the galleria tomorrow.
They also showed a rel Hook'em hand with the Bevo emblem.

Are they that stupid to not know the inverted hook'em is intended as an insult by ou people.

At the best it was a cheap childish ignorant shot.

To be analogous they should have depicted the Texas sign as shooting ou the bird.

Mostly, I'm looking forward to aggy crowd shots on t.v. 3 or 4 years from now where they're still doing the upside down horns thing and sawing varsity's horns off. I guess it makes sense. Even after you cut a dog's balls off.. he'll still try to hump air for quite a while.

I actually look at as a sign of the only way they can degrade us is by using our own sign, they can't come up with their own. I think that is the subtle message that the DMN is portraying.

interesting take
and I think it makes sense EXCEPT land theives are too dumb to know when they've been made fun of

My take on the down Horns sigh has always been that no matter what direction it is pointed, up, down, left,or right , you are still hooking.

I just smile and think they are too stupid to know any better.

ou sux, go Horns

I always look at that as the answer to the question "Were you smart enough to gain admittance into the University?". It's funny because the bearer of the sign typically looks like a "no" anyway...

Change the context and it changes your feeling about it.

I guess I wasn't the only one to question the DMN printing Horns down. I got this email from a friend who was pissed enough to write the reporter. ( My friend will complain directly to the source everytime. she is like that even if it is directed toward me)
She explained to the reporter that the Hook'em Horns sign was emblamatic of the School's Mascot a Longhorn and when sooners did it inverted it was intended as an insult.

here is the reporter's response
"This was art from a story we had done a couple of years ago, so it has appeared in the paper before. I did select the graphics and I stand by the usage of them. The Longhorns go hooks up, the Sooners go hooks down. Those have become the universal hand signs at that game, and I think “horns up” upsets the Sooner fans just as much as “horns down” upsets the Longhorn fans.

It wasn’t meant as a diss to either team – just an ILLUSTRATION of the rivalry, and I think it served that purpose just fine. FYI, I have family from Oklahoma, but I was born in Texas. On game day, I try to wear red AND orange (at home, so I don’t get beat up on the street), I alternate hand signs, and I just hope the best team that year wins."

Hooks up? WTF is that.

My response (and it worked very, very well at an SMU game a couple of years back when I had my Texas cap on and a guy on my row gave me the horns down as I passed) is always to ask if they've tried Cialis or Levitra or Viagra.

If they are students, I ask if their dates know they're in for some disappointment when they find that the guy can't keep it up.

I just wonder how many taunting penalties OU is gonna get on saturday from players doing the inverted hookem and then seeing Bob Stoops reaction after the fact.

03?
Ah that would be taunting, right?

I wonder if any okie player is stupid enough to do " Hooks down" while on the field.

Upside down horns is the universal hand gesture for "I'm a pedophile living in a single-wide". That's why we see so much of it when we play Blow-U.

This should be sent to that ignorant dallas morning news columnist who thinks Hooks up and Hooks down are unversal hand signs for Texas and ou
and that ou is insulted by seeing a real Hook'em.

Rider, under the new rule, wouldnt they get a flag for doing it period while on the field? If they score and do it, that is considered taunting, as I understand it, and will draw a flag, whether or not there is a Texas player in the vicinity.

I was under the impression that schools like A&M with their thumbs up, Texas with 'hook 'em' and OSU and Tech with their 'guns up' hand signs would be allowed to continue as it is not considered taunting but rather just a school hand sign. However, if other schools did a non-school-spirit-related hand sign it would be called as a penalty regardless, obviously based on the ref's interpretation as a taunt. Obviously the horns down is an anti-Texas hand sign and a taunt so wouldn't anyone get called for a foul if they did it anywhere on the field at any time? I hope they enforce this.

Well according to the IDOIT at the Dallas Morning news the ' hooks 'down IS a " universal sign" ou uses and it offends ou to see a Horns Up Hook'em.

If the ref is stupid like the DMN person he won't want Texas players to offend ou thugs
