DKR unprepared to sell stuff?

Perhaps we can funnel some of that LHN money to make it possible to use credit cards at the concession stands. Could not use credit cards on the lower west side, and all ATMs were non-functional. Lots of sales lost, I'm sure. Kind of surprising considering how well everything else is done.

The Bypass Lane thing in the North End Zone may have worked, but the network is always inaccessible, so I couldn't do that. The cash-only policy probably caused us to buy a bit less than we would have, since we didn't have much cash on us.

Always come to DKR with plenty of cash. Even if the ATMs are working the lines are long and you miss too much of the game standing in line under the stadium.

The is a real bad problem at the Cotton Bowl. Plus, the you have to buy vendor tix to actually buy stuff.

I'd like to understand why credit card capcity is not feasible or desirable. Hell, nowadays, a street vendor can allow customers to use credit cards. I know I spent much less last night than I would if allowed to use credit cards. Lost revenue is no minor deal if feasible.

We had a select baseball team working the concessions outside section 4 on the west side. They had trouble making change. Oh well, they're still better than any stadium I've traveled to.

You must not have been going to games too long. you pay for everything in cash at the games. its faster than waiting to run credit cards for 100k fans.

Swiping a credit card for small purchases, with no signature required, is probably faster than trying to make change and fumble around with coins and one dollar bills and all of that.

You ever notice that you don't get a receipt? I'm sure they don't want to record every single transaction that takes place on any given Saturday. It takes too much time. It's easier to just keep inventory, and check the tills after the games. They have to do those two things regardless.

Well, setting aside that I missed a chunk of the game going to the NEZ to get some food for the youngsters, if Texas is losing thousands upon thousands of dollars every game only because it lacks modern technology (which is faster than screwing around with cash), that is significant. As a guy who gives substantial cash to the University, I would prefer not to see the University just walking away from money that could be used to fund scholarships, etc.

If concession profits were set aside for scholarships there might be merit to your argument. I'm not aware of that being the case, however, which is why my wife and I have endowed a scholarshp and given several others over the years.

I'm sorry you missed a chunk of the Rice game. Just take more cash next time and that won't be a problem.

It's not a good policy. It's fine if you're a long time fan and prepared, but that's not everyone in the stadium.

All east side upper deck concession stands were closed at the beginning of the the 4th quarter! WTF! Don't they want to make money? Very strange indeed! The entire stadium experience seemed "low budget" to me. It took over 30 minutes to get into the freakin' stadium! The ticket scanning process was a joke!

There are costs and fees associated with accepting credit cards. And they are higher for "credit" than they are for "debit".

Most likely, hassle+equipment needs+fees > $ lost due to "cash only" sales.

I have to be honest, I never even considered the possibility that they would take credit cards at the game. To me, the stadium always has been a cash transaction. And while I am definitely on the side of the debate that credit cards are faster than cash at grocery stores, etc. (though I know many that disagree), I think that at the game cash is definitely faster because most people tend to calculate exactly how much their order is going to be (limited number of items and easy round numbers) and have the cash in hand and ready to go when they get to the window. I would be extremely upset if the 3 people in front of me, each buying two drinks, paid with credit cards.

Having been to Taco Bell in the last year or so, I am confident that credit card transactions are super fast -- no receipt, no signing, just bam, done. But, yes, I see the point that credit card companies charge a percentage fee and that might be the issue. In that case, a good number of working ATMs might be helpful to facilitate greater sales.

I do not know if credit card machines come wireless or not. Those I have dealt with require an open phone line. Either way it would probably be a costly to install for a few games a year considering the number of machines that would be needed.
