DJ - Kansas

Is killing us right now. He needs to just calm down and remember that he is a point guard, i.e. distributor of the ball. I love the guy but his shot selection just kills me.

He's frustrated and out of control, like you said. He needs to distribute and let it come to him. He's just forcing too much and that bad foul was just his anger over his bad play.

If he gets going in the 2nd half, we win.

That feed to Atchley was nice. Seems like he's been out of control for so many games that he should have that advantage. I mean, the advantage of always drawing two people to him when he drives. If Barnes can get Atchley, James and Johnson to crash when DJ drives, they should have many open layups/dunks.

0-9 from the field now. Dude needs to make a layup. Why does he end up falling away towards the baseline with a jumper when he takes it towards the basket? He never takes it all the way to the hole.

We found the solution - have James and Mason follow DJ to the hoop

I really think we need to take the ball out of his hand here in the last minute. It's not going to happen, but he's killing us right now.

AJ should have def not passed on the last possession. He's who you want going to ft line - not DJ.

If somebody would have told me beforehand that DJ would be 1-13 from the field, I would have bet the farm that we lose the game. Thank God some other guys stepped up on both ends.

Really, DJ has played this same way for several games in a row now. We absolutely need him, and there's no one even pretending to take his place, so I'm not "down" on him, but we really are going to need him to be higher up on his scale of potential, when it comes to shooting.

I know coach doesn't think that all the playing time is effecting DJ that much, but I disagree.

Kid needs some more rest. He shouldn't play so many minutes.

I know he has had a few bad games in a row now but don't discount that teams are focusing on stopping him first and foremost. Kansas has some really good defenders and it seems like many of them guarded DJ throughout the game. I think a little rest would do him some good but who else can handle for long periods of time? I'm glad he started to pass more in the second half. If he keeps this up, it should open up his game again.

ummmm.....Jason Kidd a top notch PG, could'nt hit the side of a barn his first couple of yrs in the NBA. DJ will be a fine PG for yrs to come. It's just a slump. As long as he can control the game and dish out assists, no complaints from me !!!!!!!!!!!!!

To bust out of this slump he'll have to be taking better shots. He's shooting 25% because he taking a bunch of shots that only are going to go in about a fourth of the time.

Completely agree except for the NBA part (ever since Dan gibson's success, I have stopped trying to predict NBA success). I would also like to add that he is vulnerable to full court pressure (why more Kansas did not apply full court pressure last night is beyond me). He is an amazing penetrator and normally outstanding as finisher, mid range shooter and 3 point shooter but poor as a passer on the pick and roll and on the penetrate and dish.

Point guards are supposed to be the most team oriented guys but he plays selfishly. Connor, Damion, and Gary could have had many, many more easy shots this season if Augustin would just pass the ball.

People who call Augustin the best point guard in the country don't seem to understand the actual role of the point guard.

I love DJ's game and don't think that he's over rated. That being said, it appears that for the time being, we are better with Mason at the point.

Come on guys, give DJ a little break and credit. All he does is bust his hump for 40 minutes a game. He's got Barnes in his ear telling him that he's the man and needs to shoot the ball.

Regardless of his 1-13 effort, I thought he did the best job that he's done in the past several games in fighting through the pick and roll to get to the lane. When he does, good things usually happen.
1. He gets his shots. And, despite his slump, he is as good at anyone of going into the trees and making a basket.
2. He gets their big guys in foul trouble.
3. He does dish some passes. 5 to 1 on TO ratio last night.
4. Finally, and this shouldn't be underestimated, he creates putback opportunities. Even when he misses, if Damian, Justin, and Connor crash the boards, we get lots of second chances.

Now, as for the last 2-4 minutes of the game. I absolutely hate the way that we completely stop our offense, dribble down th clock, and then throw up a desparation shot. But, that's Barnes' call, not DJ's.

DJ doesn't appear tired, he just appears to be in a funk. Throughout his career he has been an excellent finisher on drives. Right now he is struggling finishing. He also is taking some very bad off balanced shots. Hence the struggling.
