According to the Pre Draft Camp results at Draftexpress.

He did the 185 bench 2 times and has a max vertical of 35". The entire combine results can be found on the link earlier in this thread.

I used to be 5' 11.5" and 172 lbs.

I had a nice jumpshot, but my lateral quickness was poor. I was a good passer, had a good enough handle, but was a defensive liability against bigger opponents.

All that got me was an intramural championship back in 92.

Also interesting was that Michael Beasley measured out at 6'8.25 w/ shoes. He was being listed as 6'10" in college. This shouldn't come as huge surprise, as it was obvious, even on TV, that Beasley wasn't 6'10". He plays big, too, so I don't think it'll affect his prognosis for success. However, the NBA is a league where a couple inches could be the difference between #1-2 and #5-6.

It doesn't seem like his vertical is that high, but I doubt that matters since his leaping ability isn't what he's getting drafted on anyway.

Joe Alexander's reach is 1 inch shorter than Darrell Arthur, but is wing span is an inch longer. Either Joe Alexander is just a wider body than Darrell Arthur or he somehow articificially shortened his reach in an effort to increase his vertical. Regardless Joe Alexander tested out damn well and should improve his stock so long as his workouts are on par with his posted numbers.

Austin Badger,

I don't know if the bench number is correct or not, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was.

Texas players have historically done poorly on the bench press in the combine since Barnes took over. It's not a measurement/exercise S&C coach Todd Wright feels has much bearing on a person's basketball playing ability. I'm guessing future Longhorn basketball players who participate in the combine are probably going to do poorly in the bench press as well, at least as long as Barnes and Wright are here, and I'm okay with that.

Obviously, the results on the court are what matter but I just can't believe a D1 athlete built like DJ can only lift 185 2x.

That is really unimpressive and, frankly, would scare me off as a GM. You think Deron Williams or Chris Paul could only lift 185 2x?

I walked next to DJ after the Standford game in Houston and we were just about the same height, him being listed at 5-11 1/2 was no surprise to me. I just hope he does well at the next level and brings more recognition to Texas.

I don't recall many guys getting giant biceps, etc. under Barnes & Wright. They obviously don't seem to think it correlates to playing ability, stamina, toughness, etc. Some programs seemingly turn high school basketball players into D1 linebackers, but not Texas.

I don't know, AustinBadger. You're obviously new to this sort of information regarding UT basketball players. It's old hat to many of us. We're pretty pleased with Todd Wright and his results, so the bench press numbers are pretty meaningless as far as I'm concerned.

I do know if you don't work on bench presses at all, it's going to be tough to suddenly look good throwing up 185lbs multiple times in a row, no matter how much plyometrics, leg training, and cardio work you do.

i believe wright and barnes put more stock in a player's leg strength and core strength than biceps.

the thinking goes if you have a solid base and a solid core you can take more of a beating and last throughout the whole season. what good does having huge biceps do?

They have corrected the idoicy that was Hubalek's 3 1/2 inch shoes and Arthur's 66'3" height. The one set of numbers I really wonder about now is Kevin Love's jumping. The combine numbers say there aren't any PF-C draft candidates that signficantly outjump him other than Frank Elegar. I don't buy that one for a minute.

The initial errors were from manual input. That site was trying to get the info up first and had to hand input the data based on the file they were given.

Kevin Love is so-so on the vert, but if you recall watching him, he never was trampoline man out there. His leaping ability was good enough to wreak havoc on Aggie in the NCAA's.

If you go back to 2005 that stats say Chris Paul did 10 reps with 185.

OJ Mayo had a much higher vert than i thought.

Joe Alexander is one athletic white guy. He just assured himself a lottery selection.

185 twice is pretty bad considering his build and how he muscles people around; then again, hopefully it's not a forearm measuring contest and teams will see his intangibles..
Ewing jr has some ups
