Distributed Computing

After finally building my new computer, I recently decided to share the wealth and install a distributed computing application.

What I ended up going with was the eOn Project (which is, coincidentally, run by some students and faculty at UT

).

What I'm wondering is if anyone else around here has been volunteering their computer in any of the other DC projects out there. The SETI@home project looks a little interesting. Are there any AI-type projects out there that one could plug into? I haven't been too successful finding many, alot of the info I come across googling is outdated.

One such application is built into the latest google toolbar - link. Currently most of the work involves analyzing protein folding - practical research that could lead to medical breakthroughs.

Be careful with that stuff. If you happen to be making a top secret, microscopic swarm of spy agents that use distributed computing/processing, it will mess up your afternoon. Michael Crighton told me so.

Ah, thats kind of cool. I noticed that project, but I didn't realize that google was one of the orgs. helping with that.

I might have to reinstall the new toolbar in my IE installation and let it do its thing along with eOn.

I'm part of the 2cpu.com Folding@Home team. I have been doing it on and off for the last couple of years.
