DishNetwork v. DirecTV v. Time Warner?

looking for opinions, advice and any links to help me learn and decide which route is best. I have a 42" CRT Grand Wega so I need HD & DVR and currently have Time Warner. Feel like I'm getting robbed though. $90 bucks a month for 2 rooms and only one w/ HD & DVR.

Thinking Dish Network is the route to go.....anyone bored and willing to share advice - much appreciated.

I haven't had Dish Network for a couple years, and I've just recently gotten an HDTV, so those are two factors that might skew my thoughts.

I liked the satellite TV when I had it, but I didn't think it was THAT great. I like being able to hook up as many TVs as I have outlets in my house with TW and I really don't like all the extra wires that the Dish/DirecTV guys usually want or have to run.

I might be wrong but don't you get a roadrunner discount for being a cable subscriber? may not make a difference to you, but it is a consideration for me

also if you have HD and want to record in HD then you're going to need a rather expensive tuner...and if i'm not mistaken then local channels that you get from the satellite services are NOT the HD feed. you'd have to receive the off-air signal to record the locals in HD. for me that pretty much makes the decision.

the only reason i'm considering a change is for the NFL package on directv. if they get some of the other issues worked out by next fall (mostly receiving locals in HD) then i will look into it again.

I've had all three. The picture quality on HD from the sat's is better than the quality I got from Time Warner.Another plus with sat's is that you can get them to run new digital cable which probably explains the better quality of HD. (The over the air channels were better quality as well.)

As for the DVR, unless money is no object, Time Warner has them both beat. I believe the the box is free. Direct TV has a new box for $1,000 and Dish's old one is $499.00.

A few other things. If you love Texas Basketball you will probably want to go with cable as the ESPN+ games are shown on 23 when they aren't shown on Dish. The NFL package is only available on Direct TV. You can get a small discount with SBC if you get Dish and DSL.

If you aren't much into sports, but much more into movies and HD, check out Voom.

Can someone explain why you can't get the local channels in HD from DirecTV?

Also what is the cost (approx) of the HD dish? Thinking about updgrading.

i cant tell you why you cant get HD signal through the dish without a off air antenna. I have dish network and i had to get an off air antenna to get all the local hd channels.

Also it isnt the satellite that needs to upgraded to HD it is the tuner box. With dish i think it is free. But that is only for the HD tuner box and not the HD/DVR tuner.
