DishNetwork Broadband Connection Q

I have a DishNetwork HD DVR upstairs in my gameroom. The issue is there's no phonejack on the wall the tv/receiver back up to.

Since there's a broadband input as well, is there a way to hook into my wireless network? I assume there is, but I don't know what I'd need to buy to get it set up...

Wondering if anyone here has any ideas.

I had a new DishNetwork HD DVR installed the other day at my place. I don't have a land line and was surprised to see the option to to hook up to broadband instead of a phone line for the downloading of the info stuff which used to cost me another $5 a month. It can be done. I suggest you call DNW and get them to walk you through it. They have always been pretty helpful to me over the phone.

$5. That's like a whole 'nuther sixer of Pale Ale a month. Nice.

Funny you should ask, I started a thread about this exact thing over on dbstalk a couple weeks ago.

Basically, all you need to do is buy a powerline adapter. It turns the electrical wiring in your house into an internet connection. Therefore, you can receive an internet signal through the power outlets instead of needing an ethernet port or wireless signal. And because the ViP receivers from Dish Network are HomePlug compatible, it will receive the internet connection through its powercord and the $5 access fee goes away.

I bought a refurbished adapter off Amazon for about $30. Netgear XE102

I will offer an alternative. I bought this little guy about 6 months ago for my PS3. My PS3 didn't have built in wireless (early 20 Gig version) so I needed something to hook it up to the internet without having to run a 50' cable from my living room to office. It worked like a charm.

The beauty of it is, it has 3 more ethernet ports in case in the future I needed to connect something else up that didn't have wireless capabilities. Lo and behold, two weeks ago, I get the ViP 622 from Dish Network, and much like you, don't have a phone line. No worries, I just plugged it into this thing along with my PS3. I still have 2 more ports if something else comes along that needs internet.

I bought mine refurbished off of ebay for $25. Took a little fiddling getting it hooked up with my wireless router at my computer, but if I had to do it again, it would only take 5 minutes now that I know how to do it.
