Disch Falk Tailgating

We'll be tailgating in Lot 104 at Disch Falk this year. Can anyone tell me where the line starts for that parking lot? What entrance into Lot 104 do they use for early morning admittance? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Do you use the MLK entrance early in the morning when they start lining up (prior to when the lot's been opened at 7:00am) or simply when you arrive later in the morning/day?

Sorry to keep beating this horse. I really didn't imagine that it'd be this difficult to get an answer on such a question...

My sister and brother-in-law show up early to set up the tailgate. I really don't know how early they get there, but it's early enough to get the same spot every week. I usually show up much later, as I hit some friends' tailgate before I go to the family tailgate.

And it's hard to get a straight answer on things like this because no one wants to tell you how to come into their lot and steal their spot.

Lot 103 (outfield Disch-Falk) traditionally has had less people in it than Lot 104 (in front of Disch-Falk). If you're looking to find a good place to tailgate, I'd recommend 103 (outfield) as you'll have less of a chance of pissing off people who have been in a spot for a loooong time.

Also, in the past there have been two entrances, one for Lot 103 on Comal St. and one for Lot 104 on MLK, although you can drive in either entrance and get to both lots.

I don't tailgate, so maybe I'm not qualified to respond, but for the life of me I don't understand the "this is where we have always set up so this is our spot" mentality. Am I wrong in assuming that the lots are first come, first served for those that have a pass to be there.

For those with no sarcasm meter, this is meant to be tongue-in-cheek (sort of)...

This is the prayer I'll say before going to bed tonight...
"Dear Lord, on the eve of our first home game, please grant me the strength to enter the LBJ lot tomorrow for the first time and also the wisdom to select a tailgate location that is not the sole possession of anyone else that has a long established history of tailgating in said lot. And if I do unintentionally select a location possessed by some other more established expert, self-entitled tailgater, please grant me the diplomacy skills to deal with the situation. And may the Horns play well tomorrow... Amen..."

Seriously though... this same topic comes up just about every year and there's a group of people that think parking lot spaces and tailgate locations are first-come first-served, which they are of course... and there's another group of people that seem to think that "Well, I've tailgated in such and such a location for 3 whole years straight, so this is my spot and you all should know this is my spot and stay off it. Or some variation on that theme. Anyway, I don't quite understand the entitlement attitude that some seem to have, but oh well... if tailgating is that important to you, then so be it. Yes, I know that some folks have lots of people that are used to showing up in a certain spot, but if you're still able to be in the same parking lot, then it doesn't seem like such an inconvenience to move your location a little bit if someone else got there first.

I know this is a religious issue and I've donned my kevlar vest, so all you professional tailgaters can fire away if you want

What I don't get is the people (some) that think it is their spot and don't think they have to get there early. They assume others around them will stake out their spot or tell somebody it is "saved". My friends get there early, really early because it is a big deal to them. If you snooze, you lose. Get there earlier next time.

I've been tailgating in the same spot for 11 years, and I show up at 5AM every gameday to make sure I can get it. People who feel entitled to stroll into the lot at 10AM because "this is where I always tailgate" (and there are plenty of them in Lot 80) can eat ****...

Having said that, I do think that if two people are in line a couple of hours before they even let you in, and the guy further back has a spot he always uses, the one-and-outer should find another spot. I think the "first come, first served" ought to be relaxed a little if you're both there before the lot opens...

Ignatius,
I agree with you when you phrase it like that. I guess I was thinking about some folks who don't show up early enough to get their spot and are miffed when someone else snagged it first, and expect the newbie to just hand it over because it's "their" spot. But I would think if two people are both in line before the lot even opens up, that there ought to be plenty of spots to go around in that case.

Anyway, it's now 10:20 am and probably all the good spots are taken

Very good point Ignatius and I agree.

Save me a spot, Coder. I will be down there in an hour or so.

Wow...the crowds in Lot 104 were 10 times what they normally are, especially for a season opener. No wonder the green passes were so hard to come by this year. We got down there early as usual and were able to get our normal spot but I am curious as to why so many new tailgaters this season? Is it because people are getting squeezed out of the pink and blue lots?

Not sure, but I was late getting to the Navy Blue lots (didn't get there until about 2:30 or so) and I was still able to get a half-way decent spot to set up the tent, etc. I consider myself lucky this time so will try to get there a little earlier next home game

I don't know what it's like in the UT lots, but we tailgate in a state lot, and we have to pay for our spaces. So you better know that those spaces are OURS!

When we found our spot, we kept our eye out for an out-of-the-way spot that wasn't being used prior to 'claiming' it. We were very careful not to up and steal someone's spot. I know the spots are 'first come, first serve' but that's only because LHF handles it that way. If they'd assign parking spots, I'd be the first one to purchase mine.

I think the best way to handle it is to follow the ol' 'Be Cool' rule. If you've never tailgated in Lots 103/104, it wouldn't be in the spirit of the 'Be Cool' rule to show up at the *** crack of dawn and claim what would obviously be a prime spot.

In any case, as I mentioned before, Lot 103 (outfield) still had plenty of spots open for some good sized tailgates.

Do "established" tailgaters in university lots really show up at 10 AM and expect to get their prime spots?

I've always tailgated in the state lots, and although now all spots in our lot are reserved and pre-paid, back in the olden days you had to wait in line to get your spot. And the "established" tailgaters always got there MUCH earlier than everyone else to ensure they got their normal spots. In fact, for the Ohio State game, we lined up on Tuesday and had somewhere there 24 hours per day until the lots opened Friday at 6 PM.

Anyway, if the "established" tailgaters aren't there when the lots open, then they really don't have much claim to the spot.
