So I just ordered DirecTV service today with the Sunday Ticket and 4 months free blah blah blah. I know a lot of you guys have the service. What should i expect or anything i should know going into it? Seems like they got me on a 24 month contract which isn't that big of deal.

I get one hd dvr box and one standard box for free but they told me to get another hd box or hd dvr box you have to buy the equipment yourself. hmmmm

And one last thing, I have charter cable now with the internet. obviously i will cancel the cable but think i should still keep the cable internet. What do you guys do for internet?

Thanks!

I love Directv... so much better than anything else...

One thing... When I called to install high speed internet at the new house, Grande offered me cable as well... I declined, but then I figured out that I was also getting a discount for a bundle if I got 2 or more items... ended up getting basic cable for about $3 a month... worth it because I have a total of 5 tvs in my house, but only 2 of them have a box... the guest room have at least basic cable... I thought I might need it for when weather affected directv, but thats only happened once or twice in about 5 years.

I also had Charter until a couple of years ago, when I switched to DirectTV, and have never looked back. I had HD DVR for main TV and "standard" TV for 2 others. Will change to HD as those TVs are replaced.

I use ATT DSL. Compared to Charter the service is much more reliable. Happy with ATT DSL.

Very timely thread as I am about to order new Direct TV service. Please let me know if you find any hidden cost or anything to ask for extra.

I've had DirecTV for about 10 years now and have been happy with it. We use AT&T DSL.

If you're ordering now, my recommendation would be to go ahead and get the HD DVR package.

Be sure to pay close attention when the installers come to your house.

Some are good and some not so much. I had one guy try to run the cable straight down the middle of my roof from the peak to the rain gutters

I had to "suggest" that he hide the cable a little better

I don't have a phone line so DSL is not an option.

Unless it is cheaper to go ahead and get a phone line and DSL than keeping the cable internet. I'll have to call Charter and do some negotiating.

Been with Direct TV for 4 years now ... reception + programming is great, but pricey in my opinion. My advice is to get everything you want from them now ... if you upgrade anything later, the 2 year obligation restarts again. If you try to get out of your contract early, it's $20 per month on what's left of your 2 year obligation. Other than that, the only other thing I can say is that their customer service is great if you want to upgrade or add extra programming, however, It sucks if you want to cut back on anything.

ATT has their new fiber optic cable (U-verse?) in my neighborhood, and bundled with my phone line, DSL, and cell phone(s), their package price is significantly less than what I'm paying for everything now. I'll have to wait it out until getting out of the Direct TV obligation is affordable before I consider any decision to switch, and that depends on the quality of the ATT signal/programming.
