Direct TV question

I just got a Direct TV with Tivo this weekend. I cannot wait forfootball season!.

Question with cable i could see what was on other channels with out actually changing the channels. I would push up and down and could read the description. Is there a way to do this with direct tv? All I can do now is go to the guide, or actually change the channels.

well since i have a standalone tivo i'm not sure if it's the same but that is what the "guide" button does for me. although it takes up the entire screen it is just on top of your current program so you can still, somewhat, watch and hear.

Thanks that works for me, I just wanted to avoid the pause in sound as i was changing channels.

depends on the model of your receiver. the most recent one i bought was last summer (sorry i don't have the model number on hand), and it would pull up a guide with your program in the upper corner, so you could still see and hear it while browsing the guide.

other boxes i've used have at least had transparency options for the guide so you can kinda see through it, and audio remains on the channel.
