Dinner before Rockets game

I am not familiar with downtown Houston and am looking for a place to get a decent dinner (does not have to be super nice steak place, can be casual) and many drinks fairly close to Toyota Center (either walking distance or short cab ride - downtown area).

Also - good bar in the area to hang out at after the game?

Any suggestions?

Steaks: Spencer's in the HIlton Americas, right next to Toyota Center. There's also a Morton's at Main and McKinney and the Strip Houst at San Jacinto and McKinney. All three have bars and good food.

Tex-Mex: Original Ninfa's on Navigation. Some say its not as good as it used to be, but its still pretty good Tex-Mex.

Ibiza: Smith and McGowen in Midtown. This is always a solid place for great food and wine (great wine list and great prices on wine). This would probably be my first choice. Short cab ride to Toyota Center.

There's also T'afia in midtown at Travis and Alabama. Very good and they have a bar. Depending on what day you're going to the game, they have free appetizers in the bar on Tue-Thur.

- The Flying Saucer is good before and after the game - they have decent, but not great food.
- Check out St. Petes Dancing Marlin for some good food and drinks.
- Live sports bar is decent.
- Josephine's has good Italian food.
- Mia Bella, Bossa, Cava Bistro, and Sambuca (live band) have excellent food (Cave Bistro and Sambuca and a little more upscale).

All of these place are on Main St. and a fairly short distace to the Toyota Center.

After the game look around Main St. or Market Square area. Downtown can be hit or miss - sometimes it's happening, and sometimes it's dead. You may want to take a cab to Midtown after the game.
