My wife just got a new pentax digital SLR camera. She has always been a fairly decent photographer adn she wants to start taking pics of her friends kids and stuff for a little side business. I was thinking about getting her some sort of good digital photo editing software for Xmas. Anyone know of anything that is good for professional photo editing. I want something that is pretty top of the line since she will be taking peoples money, she may need to do more than just fix the red eye. thanks.

Most pro-level cameras come with raw file processing software. I have only used Nikon Capture, but I haven't heard great things about any company's raw processing software. I'm sure Pentax's software is like the others - good enough.

As long as you can manipulate the color curves on a per-channel basis, it will do almost all of what you need it to do.

As the above poster suggests, the only software that is going to be a big enough improvement over Pentax's raw processing software will be Adobe Photoshop. Be sure to get something higher than version 6 (that means version 7 or CS) because the later versions allow you to apply icc printer color profiles to images and actually proof your prints on a properly calibrated monitor!
