Anyone seen this documentary? It's a really fascinating look a the friendship and rivalry of 2 outstanding bands. The music alone makes this worth watching, but there's a lot of great footage as well.

I've always been hot/cold on The Dandy Warhols and have just recently become addicted to BJM. That said, I will defintely be buying more music from each of these artists. Good stuff

Love the movie, love the bands, have most all the albums and have seen both in concert several times. Even witnessed a big Anton meltdown in Chicago when a heckler wouldn't leave him alone. Thought he was going to put the boot in the guy's head.

I thought this movie was great, although I think the Dandy Warhols are horrible and come across as incredible douche bags. Just an incredibly entertaining movie, even if you hate both these bands. The fight scene on stage is one of the more amazing things that I've seen in a music documentary.

It's just a great portrait of the music world and of the special narcissism of art-makers. The perfect movie for people who love music but hate musicians.

The way the movie ended was pretty misleading, however. The Brian Jonestown Massacre went on to make some of their best records, while the Dandy Warhols continued to suck **** through a straw.

Airport,

I generally agree with your assessment. I've never been a huge fan of the Dandy's, but they made a positive impact on me in this movie. Even though they do come off as douchbags, they seem like genuine, functional people for the most part. I can't really blame them for wanting to be a bigtime band because I imagine I would've acted much the same way at that age if offered the same opportunities.

I think BJM is a far more talented band and will ultimately become a transcendent muscial influence many years from now (they somewhat touched on this in the movie). I compare them to how The Kinks are oftened viewed by modern musical standards.

Anyway, this was an excellent music documentary and it should be reiterated that it's worth picking up.

Some friends introduced the documentary to me about a year ago. I am hooked on BJM. I found it somewhat humorous that the Dandy Warhols were trying to create an image for a video that they were the party animal, recreational drug using band when in reality it was BJM taking it over the edge.

saw it a while back but the two scenes i remember

1) The BJM are living the life, (keeping it real, if you must), and the Dandys head over to their broke down **** infested house to take promo pictures to make them look like the real deal.

2) it gets so bad for the BJM that the only member who ever remotely has it together enough to talk to the record label is the jokester guy.. i can't remember his name, but when they mention he is going to be the one brokering the deal.. it's like, oh man, they are in such bad shape that this is the only functional guy left to represent the band?!
