This article claims that the US is "trouncing" ebola, and that the government has by-and-large responded appropriately. While I'm not as ready to pronounce victory as the author seems to be, I think he's probably right.
We live in an enormous country with thousands of hospitals, clinics, university health centers, etc. Every one of those institutions has spent years (and untold dollars) preparing to contain whatever infectious disease may crop up. With such a large number of people and institutions in the mix, a perfect response is unrealistic. The CDC has competently coordinated the response, and deserves tremendous praise for their skilled actions and long hours.
The rest of the government deserves some credit, too -- for staying out of the way. Thankfully, Congress and the White House are too incompetent to act quickly. Doing nothing and letting the CDC do its job just was just what the doctor ordered.
