Different (overseas) video tape format question

How do you know if your VCR will play something called a "PAL" format?

There's a discontinued movie that I've been looking for for a while for sale on e-bay, but it's from somebody in Great Britain and he says it's in "PAL" format. Is there a way to tell if my VCR will play that? The owner's manual doesn't say anything about it as far as I could see. What's the standard for the US?

NTSC. I don't believe there's any player that will play both. But I'm not a doctor.

If it's PAL, it won't play on an American (NTSC) VCR. You can buy multisystem VCRs, and converters, though, if you're willing to spend the $$$.

Is there a company in Austin that would copy a PAL tape over to NTSC format?
