Didn't Mean To Vanish Last Season But.....

The weekend of the Baylor series my left eye "slept it's
retina". As in a total detachment. This meant laser
surgery was necessary and was done the day after
Memorial Day.

They kept me conscious during the hour long surgery so I could move my eye as they did the procedure. This came as quite a surprise to me and though there was no pain, if you have a dislike for needles I don't recommend it as three pierced my eyeball during the procedure. I could go into greater detail on this, but I think you get the picture. They also placed an air bubble into my
eye that remained there for almost 8 weeks. It was
like looking through a fun house mirror for that length of time.

So after two weeks constantly laying face down even to sleep or sitting with my head down on top
of a table like nap time in the first grade, the air bubble, and being told by my Chinese Retina Specialist several times "Healing NIcely Make Another Appointment" I am sort of good to go.
Still going to be sensitive to light for awhile.

Anyway back to baseball. I hated we didn't make a
regional, but we most likely, really very likely wouldn't have been very competitive on the road
in our depleted pitching state with no offense.
The one silver lining was that it saved Knebel's
arm. I was getting very concerned he might suffer a fate like Curtis and French. It sure looked like even with my impaired vision that his arm was very tired. He still had some velocity, but little to no movement on his slider and was hit hard as a result.

I hated it about Tommy Harmon and how it went down. I am sure he was asked to retire and knowing him I know how that went. He gave a lot to the University as a player and coach, but most likely some new blood was needed.

I believe and hope that Nicholson will be a pleasant surprise even if he wasn't our first choice.
He seems very competent and being younger you would think he might could connect with the players more. As the problems with suspensions and dismissals were a problem this needs to be a priority. College baseball is shorthanded for players as it is without those problems.

Also with lots of time to meditate on such things
laying face down it dawned on me if we had hired
the Arkansas coach or the other guy who escapes my mind at the present time. I think it would have been the first time in the history of the program that no coach would have ties directly back to the Texas Baseball Program.

I like the recruiting class, Hinojosa made it to Texas filling a big need at short and with the bat.
Hollingworth looks like an arm that can help right away. I think the lack of hitting was addressed more
with this class.

Too bad about Curtis, hope he is good to go in another year. Hopefully the injured players make it
back this year Urban and Boardman would help the pitching staff. Walla if he could stay healthy and regain his freshman form would really help. Monihan if ruled eligible would also add major help in the outfield. I could go on, but that is enough for now.

Finally I would like to thank the people that helped make as much Longhorn baseball available as possible last season on this site. You know who you are, but I would like to issue a special thank you to bevoinva for his heroic efforts. I was lucky enough to have just about every road series covered.

Unfortunately it looks like we will be faced with the same problem for home games again. On the bright side if my sources remain good and I think they will the road series will again be mostly covered once more. The home games due to that network that remains a fantasy to most people are still a very fluid situation that won't be known till baseball season arrives.

Well that's all I got for now, this is as much as I have been able to type in a long time. I really wanted to get this posted before football season started so as not to interfere with that. I now return you to the Ranger magic number countdown.

Had my retina detach in Nov 2010, they tried the simple laser in-office procedure, but didn't hold. Got the Scleric buckle Feb 2011.

About 18 months out now. Can see very well. The eye is a little dry is all.

Good luck on your recovery
