Did we use Nike bats?

It's hard to argue with that. Although I'd venture a guess that our personnel had something to do with it as well.

You know, I have been coaching softball for years, and you just don't beat Easton.

"Earlier this year, the NCAA ruled that college bats must perform more like wood."

If the NCAA wants bats to perform like wood, why don't they just use wood?

The same reason the NCAA does anything...money.

The cost of wood is higher than aluminum or composite because of the number needed. (Breakage)

For years there has been discussion of MLF paying for the wooden bats at the college level, but frankly, MLB doesn't care because it has it's own farm system.

UT has a great engineering school. Why don't we get a class project going to test available bats from various manufacturers before the guys step to the plate next spring? We shouldn't just be taking the word of some sales rep about how great their bats are compared to everyone else's.

Any current engineering majors or profs on this board that want to push this?

I was looking through some pictures of last year and most of the bats I saw had TPX on them (Louisville Slugger) and the only player I saw holding a Nike bat was Cole Green.

I know that all of the guys used the Nike bat in the beginning because my husband and I discussed it to death. The horrible "ping" sound it made, what the contract with Nike was, how we could get out of it, etc. One of the first players to switch from the Nike bat was Tant, surprisenly enough that was when Tant started to break out of his slump. Again, I remember discussing this [to death] with my husband. This report doesn't surprise me in the least

Erich Weiss used a red NIke bat all season. Just think what numbers he would have put up using a good bat.
.348 / 4 hr / 45 rbi ...not to bad.
