I really really doubt it. Running your mouth like that before a deal is done is a good way to ruin the deal. CDC has demonstrated himself to be smarter than that.

He may have said he and Hartzell and Eltife are committed to putting UT athletics in the best possible position to succeed, or something generic like that.

If I was CDC, I would do it more as a hypothetical during the interview.

CDC: College athletics is changing a lot especially with NIL coming July 2021.
Sark: Yes, sir. It is.
CDC: What would you differently?
Sark: Help student-athletes with their NIL process to stay in line with UT and state law.
CDC: It'll probably shake up conference alignment within the decade. How would you feel if there ended up with one or two super conferences?
Sark: I'd be ready to adapt to any conference.
