Did BO forget what he promised?

i know it has been nearly 4 years and presidenting is hard but surely someone as brilliant as The One could remember what he promised during his ascendancy?

""President-elect Barack Obama has pledged to change the way Washington works and curb the influence of lobbyists," said Podesta in the transition team statement.

"During the campaign, federal lobbyists could not contribute to or raise money for the campaign...the president-elect is taking those commitments even further by announcing the strictest, and most far reaching ethics rules of any transition team in history."
and
"In a speech last November in Spartanburg, S.C., Obama said: "I have done more to take on lobbyists than any other candidate in this race...I don't take a dime of their money, and when I am president, they won't find a job in my White House."

"President Obama’s reelection campaign has hired a former lobbyist to serve as a senior adviser to the 2012 team.

The Obama campaign announced Monday the hiring of Broderick Johnson, a veteran of the Clinton White House and Sen. John Kerry’s (D-Mass.) 2004 presidential campaign.

Obama positioned himself as an enemy of K Street and special interests during his first presidential campaign. He repeatedly vowed that lobbyists would not run his White House and refused to accept campaign contributions from registered lobbyists.

So BO says he won't take money from lobbyists and no lobbyist will find a job in BO's WH BUT BO will PAYfederal lobbyist and take his advice on the campaign no doubt only from BO's campaign offices.

Once more it depends on what the definition of is is.
And obamites will twist this for him so it is ok in their minds

Not only is he not doing what he promised, he's doing the exact opposite. And he knew that from the first day of his campaign.

Talk about no shame.

Well Horn I think you have given yourself a good reason to note vote for him in the relection. And you also have justified to yourself why you didn't vote for him in last election. But at this point everyone knows how you feel about him. You are becoming one of those annoying people who show up at your door and want to force their religion at you. Seriously you have no real interest in discussing anything and your viewpoints will never change. Should we take any thread of your seriously and debate points when most of the threads are just ridiculous shots at the President? I don't think so.

This is an interesting post not for the question posed, for all politicians forget promises, but that the poster seems to think that specific fault can be directed toward any one politician (here it is Obama) implying that other politicians, undoubtedly those of his partisan flavor, would remember their promises, and presumably act on them. This shows either a naivete on the part of the original poster, ignorance of the workings of politics and what politicians (of all sorts) must do to garner votes, or something else. A lot of US voters are in an adolescent state when it comes to their understanding of the political process and their "insights" seem little more than crude rehashes from FOX News. I find this tiresome.

For a more realistic view, take Russia during the recent unpleasantness.

From Sunday's NYT:

Vranyo is a Russian word for lying — a special form of lying. I learned of it in a Leningrad nursery school from Aunt Polya, who was in charge of the kitchen and who wasn’t really my aunt. She loomed over us with a pitcher of warm milk and a tray with slices of buttered bread that had absorbed all the rancid smells of the kitchen, watching closely to make sure we ate and drank everything. We all knew she was watching us, she knew that we knew and we knew she knew that we knew. She gave us surprise glances, and we chewed diligently, pretending we didn’t expect her to look. We all played the game: my sister played it at school, and my parents played it at work. All of us pretended, the watchers and the watched.

When I recently opened The New York Times and saw Vladimir Putin — soon to become, once again, Russia’s president — walking out of the Black Sea with two nearly intact ancient amphorae in his hands, the vranyo alarm went off. I immediately thought of Boris, who 38 years earlier dove to 75 feet, only to emerge with small amphora shards — broken pieces of necks and handles — that archaeologists working nearby offered to buy for a gallon of local wine. At the time we both wanted the wine, but somehow our respect for history prevailed, and the amphora shards sat on a shelf in my apartment in Leningrad for many years.

So how was Putin able to find these artifacts? In the picture he wears a wet suit and an oxygen mask as if he had gone to great depths. But why did the amphorae, which had presumably been sitting under water for 2,600 years, look so clean?

The smell of vranyo was so strong I had to put down the paper. I was sure that thousands of Russians were smirking in recognition of the old pretending game: Putin was lying to us, we knew he was lying, he knew we knew he was lying, but he kept lying anyway, and we pretended to believe him. It was clear he couldn’t have found the ceramic jugs on his Black Sea dive. Numerous archaeological expeditions had been searching for these artifacts for decades. Even if there were still a few left to be discovered, what were the chances of the 59-year-old prime minister diving to the murky depths of millennial history?

The US doesn't understand the concept of vranyo, it seems.

But, there is a reason for that:

But then it occurred to me that a great number of Putin’s constituents were born during or after Perestroika. They were never forced to march in an October Revolution Day parade. They didn’t grow up with only two major newspapers, The Truth and The News, or know the standard joke that there is no news in The Truth and no truth in The News. They never had an Aunt Polya to teach them about vranyo. While I envy this uncommunist generation, I do see one deficiency: They have lost the ability to detect a lie.

But my overall point is a lot of the questions posed here (and the one in the original post is a good example) seem to criticize politics for being, well, political. It's like an investor blaming a stock for having systemic risk when all stocks have that risk, rather than blaming a stock for what it should be blamed for.

Did Bush lie with "read my lips"? He shouldn't have gotten the flack that he did for that.

If you truly are going to evaluate politicians on promises and whether they keep them then you've got a very small political cast of candidates from which to choose.

So what you are saying is Obama should move to Russia where people recognize the art of lying? Listen, Clinton lied and except for the Grand Jury perjury, the lies were rather innocuous. On the other hand, Obama lied about a major platform issue. He ran against cronyism and closed door meetings. He then proceeded to outdo the previous administrations.

To excuse lying gives politicians an easy out. People need to be held accountable for their words. But this doesn't mean all lies are equal. And while political parties might want to consider their opponents lies worse than our own, discerning constituents realize the spectrum of the severity of lies.

Since the Bushes will inevitably come up, if GW Bush lied about nuclear weapons in Iraq, that is a very big lie. The question with that one was whether or not the US government was fooled or whether Bush actually lied. On the other hand, the elder's read my lips no new taxes was pretty minor in comparison. The president can't always get what he wants. Sometimes compromises are necessary. Now back to Obama, there is nothing that keeps Obama from creating a more open government. It is all in his power. And the effect of a non-transparent gov't is significant. If you want to consider it a minor offense that is your prerogative. However, I think most Americans see it for what it is, a play for power. Of course, there are degrees for this as well.

So what you are saying is Obama should move to Russia where people recognize the art of lying?

A better interpretation would be that people here better understand lying and the role lying plays in the political process.

you think russians lie? you should spend time in the middle east. they willl tell you the sky is red and the moon is made of cheese and be serious. in business over there, if you arent lying, you arent trying.

There is embellishing or stretching the truth, and then there is lying. Obama LIES more than he embellishes, knowing that other than Fox and few radio guys, no one will call him on it.

I am not sure he ever really remembers what he reads to us. Can't very well fault him for lying when he doesn't even understand what he is reading. Fault the american people for putting this skid mark in a position of power. we are the real fools in all this.

I've been search on C-Span because that is the channel Obama promised his transparency would be on. I looked for the open meeting they had for Solyndra and how they thought for even a second it would be a good idea. Can C-Span atleast show his reaction when he losing the election in 2012 by the biggest margin (even more than Reagan over Carter) and maybe even show him leaving the White House for the last time while America starts rebounding the huge mess this Community Organizer has made of our economy.

Barrack Hussien Obama.............YOU'RE FIRED!

I have some information for you that I know you will like and it is apparent you aren't aware of this.

If you see a thread I start, here is the beauty of it; Pharm you do NOT have to open it and read it. You Pharm can just ignore.
See how easy that is?

BO and all MSM made such a huge deal out of BO's transparency and new tone in DC. over and over and over. Obamites rejoiced in BO's pledge.

If BO is going to hammer a point BO should at least stick to that point.
Now BO can suffer the consequences of being exposed.

PHarm you posted"Then you have to ask youself what is the point if you are not discussing anything and learning new things. "
Au contraire
biggrin.gif

I am discussing
BO's policies ,failures( both of which hurt my country) and his lies. I also btw give Bo credit when he does something good.

I am learning
daily new failures and lies,
for instance, this thread. I did not know he'd broken his own promise and hired a Federal lobbyist until I read the news story. I did not make that up. It happened and was reported.

So you hate that he is being exposed as a Bozo. I get it. I notice you can't contradict the news story or even comment on the story.
Your view doesn't make you right and me wrong. WE just disagree
But I would hope you agree with me that I have the right to post news stories about BO and to express my displeasure with him.

Now that you know I want BO gone why get your panties in a wad by reading any thread I start or even if you see a post of mine in a thread? JUST IGNORE ME.

We are like children when it comes to politics.

Here's a good article on the topic (political hypocrisy). Forego a case or two of cheap beer and git yerself a subscription.
