It was pretty loud, and I wasn't there. I don't know how you couldn't have heard it. I don't know if the Miami cheerleaders got it started or they just got bored and started doing it on their own.
I was there. The pig fans were fired up at the Miami comeback. Texas held on, so it was a sad day for them. A couple of UT fans mocked the chant after the win. They were funny.
I was in Little Rock last Monday for business an got behind a car on Markham Street wit a licence plate that said, "Beat UT". What do you think the odds are the jackass meant the Volunteers? Yeah, me neither.
I was there at both games, and they did that chant a few times before the Austin Peay game and a few times during the Miami game. I didn't notice the Miami band or cheerleaders leading the chant. I couldn't help but smile, though, at the insecurity and envy that the hog fans showed. When they weren't booing the Horns they were commenting to each other about how good the Horns' players are.
Yes, what was really funny was a few weeks ago when I saw Jason Boland and Johnny Cooper on Dixon St. in Fayetteville. Those drunk Arkies were singing every word of "Somewhere Down In Texas" and "I'll Bring Texas To You" word for word. They were all drinking Shiner too. Everytime one of them would catch the logo on my hat they'd avert their eyes in shame. They all hate Texas, but not a damned one of 'em would know what to do without us. Very entertaining stuff.
The best were the Arkansas fans in a bar after the Miss State/Memphis game, watching their team get slammed by Carolina. We started another Pig Sooie, but they didn't seem to want to join in. One drunkard retorts, "Do you think you guys are actually going to win it all?"
Not necessarily, but our team actually advances out of the first round more than once every six years....
I was at Alltel and it was awesome. The Hog fans were very, very cool about it, though they tried to make it difficult for our guys to win. Honestly, I think it is what makes college athletics all the more interesting.
When done correctly and by massive amounts of people, it is one of the most intimidating cheers in sports. It literally sends chills up my spine.
My experience was that the Hog fans loved us being in Little Rock and you can tell that they miss our rivalry. I do too.
