"Ugh" I think about sums it up.

He says the most inane things in very un-clever attempts to be funny. I know some people like it because "That's his shtick" or whatever, but that sounds to me like basically "If you repeat stupidity often enough, it becomes classic because you expect it." I don't get it.

The most groan-worthy line of all had to be after Dexter made a leaning shot in the paint and Vitale screams "THE BIG MAN! HE'S AGILE! HE'S MOBILE! AND HE'S ..... NOT FRAGILE!"

I love Vitale...much better than the boring typical crap coming out of the mouths of all the other talking heads.

I really like Vital also. I was glad to see him doing the game.

I used to love Vitale. I want to be a sports broadcaster, and his passion and enthusiasm for the game was one of the main reasons persuading me to follow that path. But he's just an absolute joke now. He knows almost nothing about the current players or way the game is played, and his bias for the ACC and especially Duke is just sickening. He spent the entire UNC game ragging on JCB for his "attitude problems" and talking about how Balbay is going to lose minutes for poor shooting. He also talks about random stuff that has no application to the game he's doing or college hoops in general. It's about time to go, Dicky.

That was rough to listen to on Saturday. I understand they have to appeal to a national audience, but the amount of meaningful basketball talk during that game was atrocious.

I didn't get to listen to Dickie V since I was at the game. Had I known he was doing the announcing, and I should have seen that coming, I would have recorded the game just to hear him. I love his enthusiasm. He is by far my favorite announcer. I just want to know if he was "gushing" over us?? Usually he is very complimentary about Texas. Sounds like maybe he was a little critical over J'coven and Doge, from earlier comments.

I am not a fan. A commentator should enhance your viewing experience. He just rambles about whatever comes in his head, most of which has nothing to do with the game he is currently broadcasting. It is distracting.

Vitale LOVES UNC and Duke. Texas laying the wood to his beloved made him simper a bit. He did give the Horns the nod over KU but he had to know it will be in Austin.

Texas has a long road ahead. Hopefully Barnes can continue to weave the team, team, team magic with this grossly talented squad.

I agree with VinceFord. Vitale spends way too much time commenting on other teams, their coaches, and their players, and way too little time on what's happening in the game. Rather than break down defenses and ways to attack them, he''ll spend most of the game talking how well Duke is playing or how good John Wall is or how Sean Miller is a great coach that will get Arizona turned around and how Nic Wise will make them a dangerous team come tourmament time, etc.

He was also giving some serious props to Pittman and his weight loss, so let's not make it sound like he was all anti-Texas by commenting about Brown.

Dicky V brought excitement to the college game...25 years ago. I still remember him screaming Michaellllll Jorrrdannn!!!!! all the time when Jordan was still at NC.

But now he just rambles on, off on another tangent during the middle of a game. Not a good play-by-play guy anymore but still loves the game.

I love his enthusiasm for the game. I'm not as avid a basketball fan as football, so maybe I haven't OD'ed on Vitale like some of you apparently have. He still represents a sign that a game is a big one, of national importance.

Being enthusiastic doesn't make a good announcer. Being able to say something useful and knowing when to not say something because it isn't are important too.

Anybody can sit around and rasp and screech about something they care a lot about while making up lame puns and rhymes.

I went to the game and was very disappointed I couldn't get the AM feed to work to hear C. Way call the game. Came home to watch the recording and was amazed how much Vitale was jabbering about crap other than the game. Yes, alot of it was sthick - really lacked insight into the game.

His act has gotten old and he really is too much of an ACC homer for my taste. As good as Texas looked, he spent more time gushing over UNC and how they would challenge for the ACC title than complimenting UT.

We seem to have several opinions here.

1) Like him for his enthusiasm.
2) Can't stand him because of his schtick.
3) Can't stand him because of the lack of information delivered.

A good announcer imparts both enthusiasm and information. I would forgive the schtick if he delivered more information about the game.

Bilas is a tremendous commentator. He can get a little pompous at times, but he's usually really damn sharp about pointing stuff out. As former ACC dudes, he's infinitely preferable to, say, Billy Packer.

I've actually enjoyed Bob Knight doing color as well. I almost always learn something new about the game when I watch his telecasts. He seems to have a pretty good rapport with Musburger.

I respect Jay Bilas too. For me Vitale has become "worn out". He wears on me and I want more informative commentating - he's just an "act".

Wasn't it during the NC game that he said he would give the edge to Texas as to which team was the best? Seemed to be in love with Texas to me.

Man, what an *******!

IMO Bilas is the best. Aside from the annoying schtick, Vitale talks out of his *** quite often, but he talks so much that some people don't notice that he doesn't know what he's talking about.
