Dick Cheney

Roger35, our Presidents (both parties) tend to deemphasize the military when the need to fight a current action wanes. The upshot of this action is that the military is not well prepared the next time the balloon goes up - weapons not modernized, insufficient troop strength and training, and inadequate mobilization capability. The chances of a global-type war (similar to WW II) are pretty remote, but the chances of a "police action" are much higher - and not having a fully capable military when the balloon does go up lessens the future President's options for response.

Certainly there was a chorus of voices. I think it accurate to contend that Cheney was their leader. Also, no one did more to discredit/silence opposing viewpoints in the government.

Even if Cheney was "their leader", he's a piker compared to the current administration and their efforts to silence the opposition.

Since some of us cannot let the past go, I am still mad about Jimmy Carter's foreign policy, especially in regards to energy policy. We should boycott the Olympics or something.
