DeWese's Tip Top Cafe

I saw it on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives, and ate there about a month ago.

The food was good, but not great. I had the pork roast that was featured on the program. It was a little overcooked on the outside and too salty. The onion rings were great, and the chicken fried steak was really good.

I would go back.

I go there a lot. Chicken Fried Steak is the meal of choice. Its fried in the same grease as the fried chicken, rumored to be the same grease from day one. I doubt if this is true, but so what if it is, its a damm good chicken fried steak, just a tad better than Jailhouse Cafe where Shaq eats everytime he hits town..The man knows food!

i need to check this place out, if I can ever overcome the massive gravitational pull that chris madrid's has on me when I am down there.

The Tip Top is a classic. I grew up on that place. The CFS is fantastic, but I'm also a big fan of the chopped steak. And the onion rings are the best I've ever had.

Damn boys, this place sounds really good. I love my southern fried cooking. I will be in your area in Oct. Can't wait to try it out. Do they serve any good southern sides like collard greens or boiled cabbage? I like good home cooking/

That's the one off of, IIRC, Fredricksburg, right?

When I was a kid we'd go there after church (went to Redeemer Lutheran right by there). I'm pretty sure my Dad said that's where HE had gone back when he was in HS (circa 1950s)...

The CFS WAS good...

I didn't like their enchiladas. The sauce tasted too much like American chili, and less Mexican. I guess, though, we weren't at a Mexican food place though. The fresh rolls were nice though, and CFS was good.
We beat the dinner crowd, but we still had to split our party on two tables. As we left there were people waiting outside.
