"--Immigration detainees housed at the Etowah County Jail went on a brief hunger strike Thursday and today to protest the poor quality of food they are served, an immigrant rights group said.

But an Etowah County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman said the protest was not a hunger strike because it did not last 72 hours.

"Several detainees refused three meals, which does not constitute a hunger strike, beginning Thursday ... today, Friday, August 8, 2014, the detainees accepted and ate lunch," spokeswoman Natalie Barton said. "Etowah County Detention Center staff quickly resolved the refusal of food and addressed the detainees "

IIRC we give detained illegals a small allowance in addition to everything else including size 6X whitey tighties.

I realize it is futile to ask you not make such angry personal attacks like
"You are truly a piece of ****" and the others you made in other threads just yesterday.

I'd like you to consider that seeing attacks like these doesn't make most of us want to attack you back but does cause us to pity you.
You clearly have anger issues and you clearly can't articulate a reasonable response .Your childish personal attacks are wasted.
 
re the original post, a few thoughts based on my experiences as a prosecutor, defense lawyer and, in my reckless youth, occasional occupant of some jails: jail food is often extremely bad and not good for you; sometimes in some jails it is actually quite good. I have had clients tell me they were in no hurry to get out of some places because the county fed well and the food at the prisons was bad.

Some people are in jail who are not guilty of anything. Some of these aliens appear to believe they were invited here and that is not a totally unrealistic belief, especially considering the fact that the government doesn't do anything to punish the Americans who hire them rather than mowing their own yards, etc.

Many jails are run on razor thin budgets and one way to shave costs is to feed little to the inmates and to serve very poor quality food as well. In some places much of the kitchen work is done by inmates and if you don't have any cooks incarcerated you may have some quality issues. I have eaten food in jail (many decades ago) that literally made me sick.

The commissary issue brings up another point: commissary prices are outrageously high and the county or other governmental entity can make profits off them. So they may be feeding the inmates horrid rancid food to force them to contribute to the jail's coffers. Which is not exactly the point of incarceration.

The aliens may all be guilty of something but all the inmates are not. So some of the inmates, innocent, are in effect being tortured by the nice jailers.

I would like to see the Americans who are too lazy to mow their own lawns or wait on their diners or hang their drywall go serve six months in prison so they can taste what being a near slave is like and to serve as an object lesson to their fellow miscreants, who might then decide to let their aliens go; the aliens, unable to find jobs, might return to the glorious republics of their birth and the employers might actually break down and hire some more Americans. But I am an optimist.
 
I have said many times I could like to see employers who knowingly hire illegals sent to jail
But we know most illegals so easily get fake docs and employers can't ask too many questions.

This particular facility is housing illegals who have been here for years.
I have no sympathy for those who abuse our laws, employer or illegal. There are for more illegals who fake docs, work get benefits and rip us off.

on the OT if the food was so bad one wouldn't think they would go back to it after one day. After all the muslims at the Gitmo prison held out and got their special menu

Much is pathetic. Illegals in detention centers for years at our expense complaining about their free food is comic relief.

Imprisoning those inmates costs the state and federal governments 1.6 billion dollars every year. Meredith Everhart said illegal immigrants accused of crimes are difficult to track down. They often use fake social security cards or names. If convicted and serve prison time, Immigration and Customs Enforcement have them in a database of previously deported felons, which makes them easier to find if they try to get back in to the United States"

The stats were from 2006.does anyone think the number of illegals committing crimes and going to jail/ prison has declined?

That reporter is as ignorant as you. The BJS doesn't report stats that way. When they collect the data, they classify the prisoners as citizens or non-citizens. Non-citizens doesn't only mean "illegal alien." You've heard of green cards and the like, right?

If you read the report in my link you notice that illegals often have fake ID including names and SS#.
That does make it harder to separate out illegals.

But let's say you are right. Illegals do NOT make up nearly 30%.
Is it fair to say that taking illegals out of our prison population would reduce the population and cost of imprisoning the rest of the prison population? Is it fair to say some states have a pretty high number of illegals and a troubling burden on that states debt?
Not to mention the cities in those states have debt of their own.

what % of the US prison population could be illegals and that would be ok with you in terms of the crimes they committed, the victims suffering from those crimes and the amount of money all of us have to pony up to pay for the illegals in prison in US state county and city jails?

Well someone paid their way to get 2000 miles across Mexico from Guatemala. The nerve of them to complain about free food. Really? Im sorry, but the US border isnt a resort just waiting for illegals to come by the tens of thousands and be fed and served...
 
If 20% of the prison population is non-citizen, what is the current % of the population that is non-citizen? Seems like a disproportionate % are non-citizen prisoners even if the number is the vastly improved 20%? Right?

What % of the non-citizens are lawbreakers?
