Deshaun Watson

Of note:

1) The Haslams want him gone so bad that they agree to pay over $10 million of his next year's salary.

2) The Haslams perhaps know less about running an NFL franchise than they do about running an NCAA program - see also Tennessee Volunteers

3) The QB talent pool in the NFL is approaching or has arrived at an all-time low

4) It will be interesting to see who the Browns take with that marvelous 5th round pick they get for him (one news service says it's a sixth round pick

The bigger question is what happened to the "close friendship" between Tony Buzbee and Cal McNair?

I might not agree on # 3 unless the calculation discounts the top of the list and in particular, these four young QBs:

Josh Allen
Justin Herbert
Joe Burrow
Patrick Mahomes

Lamar Jackson isn’t chopped liver either but his mediocre passing game may be the reason he never gets the Ravens to the Super Bowl.

Then there’s Aaron Rogers, a future hall-of-famer that I can’t stand. Brady is still playing and Stafford just won a Super Bowl.

The jury is still out on Trevor Lawrence and Mac Jones, although I believe that the latter (a Sark protege as we all know) will be very good.

Russell Wilson was a carry-the-team-on-my-back Super Bowl winning QB but his best days are behind him.

As for the rest, with the possible exception (but I doubt it) of Murray and maybe Dak, it’s pretty bleak.

Think about the fact that the likes of Geno Smith and Tyrod Taylor/Davis Mills have STARTING jobs...as does Joe Flacco and Drew Lock.

without question, there is talent and cream at the top of the barrel, but the barrel below that little bit of cream is pretty much a bucket of mediocrity.

I don’t keep up with the NFL much anymore, but obviously something happened between Mayfield and the Browns’ management/ownership for him to go from savior to pariah in such a short time. They’d lost 19 in a row before he joined the Browns. He took them to respectability and the playoffs in no time. He had a bad season last year, but not enough ordinarily to bring in a sex offender to play QB and dump him for a 5th round pick.

I've seen a number of sites that suggested he let his ego write checks that his performance simply wasn't cashing. He had ego long before the insurance commercials, but it got worse afterwards...

On the bright side, we probably get a whole new wave of people being introduced to the time Fayettenam police bounced him off the wall...

Clean,

Peruse the Haslam's handing of the Tennessee athletic program and perhaps you will come to the same conclusion I have - this time it may not be Mayfield's fault.

To draw a parallel to our program, imagine that Red McCombs fires CDC, and replaces him with Mack Brown, only to have Mack's first act to be banning Red from any and all participation in Texas athletics at any level including sending money.
