Denver hotels and brewpubs

I need to stay over an extra couple of nights after we kick CU's ***. Can anybody recommend some reasonably priced hotels in Denver?

I've only been there once and I remember staying at some place in Cherry Creek. I was hoping to find something a little closer to that famous brewpub, Wynkoop, which as I recall was in a downtown warehouse type area.

Wynkoop was the only brewpub I had a chance to visit but I know there are many more - any thoughts/recommendations on some of the others?

I know virtually nothing about Denver - is that area safe? It was sort of a refurbished warehouse district but close to Coors Field.

Thanks!

The Wynkoop is in the area called Lower Downtown (LoDo for short). Yes, it's safe. There are quite a few good brewpubs to vist. In addition to the Wynkoop, go to Breckenridge Brewery, Flying Dog, SandLot & Rock Bottom. There are quite a few others, too. If you stay in a hotel in LoDo, just set out on foot and you'll find plenty of places.

As for reasonably priced, it'll depend on your definition of "reasonably," as there's a ton of choices in LoDo.

Sorry Guapo for not posting earlier.

96 is right - there are a ton of brewpubs in Lodo. The days of the homeless and the burning barrels are over in Lodo. It has been completely revitalized and there are a buttload of lofts. There are lots of drunk suburbanites down there on the weekends (with their immaturity), but aside from the occasional gang initiation (10 guys beating up one stranger), it is safe.

Resonable hotels down there might be hard to find. There is Hotel Teatro, Hotel Luna and the Oxford Hotel. There is an Embassy Suites near lodo. Up the street (still downtown) there is everything from a Holiday Inn and Marriot to a cool little Hotel Monaco.

The owner of the Wynkoop is now the Mayor.

17th Avenue has some better upscale bars. Colfax has some gritty hip bars (interspersed among the derelict joints) and South Broadway has a few places worth checking out. Lodo is good for the sheer amount of bars and clubs, but it can feel a little chainish and surburbanite.

Thanks, washpark. Lo Do - that's it. I was thinking there was a name for that area other than "warehouse district".

Looks like hotels down there are a bit more that I want to spend. I guess I'll head back to Cherry Creek. Can't remember exactly where I stayed but I saw a bunch of stuff on-line that looked reasonable.

Final question - how are the cabs there? The reason I ask is because Mrs. Guapo was in Chicago last week and an 8 mile cab ride from the airport ended up costing like $42. Any idea what a cab from Cherry Creek to LoDo might cost?
