Denton becoming new TX music capitol...

damn, no mention of the eli young band? they just signed with universal.

I am impressed with the likes of Eli Young and Hayes Carll blowing up. Not exactly classic in the way of Willie or Cash, but sure is not that Chesney Nashville ****.

When I first read the title of this thread, I didn't see the word "music."

Denton has always been like that. Now it is just a new sound coming out. 15 years ago, it was a lot heavier: Toadies, Caulk, Baboon, Brutal Juice (aka The Denton Wall of Noise bands). Brutal Juice was my favorite of these. You can't beat song names such as the Vaginals, Whorehouse of Screams or Kentuck **** Daddy..

Um.....Bravo Combo anyone? Denton has always had a good music scene, fed by the jazz program and the lab band at North Texas. Also, weren't 'Ten Hands' and 'About 9 Times' based in Denton as well?

We've got some ****** *** drivers we'll be more than happy to let them have. Can't be the music capitol of Texas without ****** *** drivers.

True on the Toadies being from Ft. Worth. I guess that I just remember them playing in Denton back when I was in high school.

BTW - I ripped this off of wikipedia

On Monday, May 12, 2008, The Toadies MySpace blog was updated with an entry titled "So....ya wanna new Toadies record.....?" Which announced the release of their third studio album, No Deliverance with the scheduled release date of August 19, 2008. Later that night they played a small set during a intermission of the Western Confrence Finals Game 3 between the Dallas Stars and Detroit Redwings. They also announced the website, NoDeliverance.com, and an exclusive interview with Vaden about the album for Spin Magazine. [3]

The UNT LAB ONE OCLOCK JAZZ BAND is the best band in Denton, perhaps the best band in Texas. The 1975 recording kills.

What Denton has going for it is a mid size university combined with a lower cost of living.

Austin is become harder and harder for a struggling musican to live in. Rents are too high, noise ordinances, etc. Austin is living a lot on it's reputation.

I wouldn't mock Denton, lots of good bands have developed out of there. Now, do i want to live in Denton? no.
