Looks like Dennis Hopper may be on his way out. He has always seemed like an indestructible character, to me. The CNN article linked indicates that he is dying, but he is undergoing chemotherapy. Good luck to him.

Prostate Cancer

I remember my introduction to Mr. Hopper in 1986 watching Blue Velvet in Dobie Theater. Being 18 at the time, i was completely unaware of his previous work.

I was like : "Dude, who is this guy?!" What an incredible performance.

What is up with all these old people getting sick and dying?

Prayers to him for a smooth transition and to his loved ones in dealing with their impending loss.

We just rented Blue Velvet a couple of weeks ago, hadn't seen it since it was released around 1986. Hopper was great.

Funny story: I was reading something of David Lynch's and he said when Dennis Hopper read the script for Blue Velvet he told Lynch: You have to let me play Frank. I am Frank.

I have been a fan of his since Easy Rider. I was working at Austin Aqua Festival in the early '90s, and had an 'All Access' pass. There were a couple of rows of on stage seating, which I had been using for the concerts I wanted to see. Willie and Family were the headliners one night, and being a huge fan of his, I was looking forward to viewing from the stage...'All Access' denied. If you didn't have a Willie pass, you didn't count. I was trying to talk the security guy into letting me sneak up(I knew him), but he wouldn't budge. When I was about to give up I felt a hand on my shoulder, and a voice say "He's with me." I turned around to see Dennis Hopper. Needless to say I was floored. He not only got me on stage, but I sat with him and his bombshell of a wife, and had the time of my life. He was a great guy...very nice and funny. After the show, I thanked him ad nauseam as he retreated to Willie's bus...not sure what that was about.
