Quite a few Democrats at the DNC advocate banning corporate profits (YouTube video):
Democrats in favor of Banning Corporate Profits

You just can't make this stuff up.

would love to see that on the Tonight Show (Jay Walking) or the Daily Show, but you know they wouldn't want to point out any politicial stupidity that isn't GWB

I see both sides to this. I see the conservative side, but I think, just maybe, that the Democrats prefers people over profit. If you don't know already, look up Apple and Foxconn. Last quarter, Apple reported a "disappointing" profit of $35B rather than their projected $37B. I guess if nobody else died at Foxconn, they would have turned out more products to sell to make up for the deficit.

A recent study was done, Apple among many other companies can still be profitable here by having their products made here in the USA, but to be extremely profitable, it must be done so offshore. Profit comes at a cost, but it shouldn't be paid with human lives.

The real question is: Profits = Greed or Greed = Profits? Or more precisely put, Mass Profits = Greed or Greed = Mass Profits?

If GM posts a hefty profit in the future, would Democrats be cool with limiting profits? How about the unions? Can we simplify it by ruling that we only limit profits from companies that donate more to the RNC than the DNC? You know, because they're the greedy ones.

biganakhanhda,

First thing lets put this out there, no politician will ever BAN PROFITS. If somehow they were able to then any business worth anything would move from this country and our standard of living would drop. The Government would have to take over all of the utilities,etc...

That being said I don't agree but I see where people are going with a reduction in corporate profits. However no one has ever really given a solution that is feasible. Do you want to tax Apple more? There is a fine line where a company is willing to continue to keep there business within your jurisdiction. There is a reason much of the movie business has moved away from California and it isn't because the weather is better elsewhere.

So please give an actual solution that you think would work and lets discuss.

Personally I believe we already have to many restrictions on business. Especially at the state level we have tried to tax businesses a lot more luckily for many of us we live in Texas and those businesses are moving here, but it isn't necessarily good for the rest of the nation for all the business to be done in a few states.

most importantly it is for the consumers to decide. you don't like apples profits, and their culture of taking advantage of cheap labor, don't buy their products and fuel their profits. None of the governments business what they do with their money, nor how they make it, nor is it their job to determine how much is enough.

FYI, Apple has repeatedly been ranked as one of (if not the most) blue donators in recent economic history.

I hear ya Roger. I'm not against profits, because I myself am a business owner. No one is in the business of losing money, I get that. But profits comes at a cost, whether it be massive job losses here, human lives in countries where we send jobs too, that I have a problem with.

I don't have a clear solution to offer you, only my morals, ethics and values drives my business, but that's not how business is handled the majority of the time. If only our two party system can come together and create a solution rather than avoiding them, then we might be onto something. There needs to be a compromise, but our members in Washington doesn't want to do that.

I personally don't think money is the root of all evil, greed is. We all need money, but is it ever enough with what we currently have? I don't know.

biga??
Do you seriously believe this?
' But profits comes at a cost, whether it be massive job losses here, human lives in countries where we send jobs too, that I have a problem with. "

Really? You say you have a business and you really think that ?

Believe me outsourcing is NOT the only way a company can make profits/

It is hard to believe that you actually run a business if that is your understanding ; that profts are only made with job loss or outsourcing.

I get the whole FoxConn and Apple thing, however what is that you want? Apple could take their business elsewhere and very well may do so at somepoint which means Foxconn goes away and all of those chinese workers no longer have a job? I believe there should be better conditions. I also believe we are a global economy and those jobs are not coming back to the US ever. So as consumers we can stop buying Apple products until they are able to show better conditions for the workers but this probably isn't enough for anyone.

So what is the US government supposed to do tax Apple's profits away? Seriously this won't change anything other than drive a US business out of the US and take away an option for US consumers.

This is a consumer issue when we are willing to pay more or do without things might change.

The issue of what owrkers in other countries make is a difficult one and not easy to solve.

Anyone who has ever traveled to do business in a 3rd world country knows the people there who do find work at " factories" have it a thousand times better than they would in the villages
and those workers send money back to their families in those villages which uplifts the conditions in those villages.

Does that make it right that Nike Walmart and Apple and hundreds of thousands of other companies here and elsewhere don't pay what we consider decent money?

First world countries have exploited or benefitted workers in 3rd world countries in an increasing way since the 50's.

I just wish we'd quit pretending we have a right as a gov't to dictate to other countries how to pay their workers.

I also wish people who have never run a business would either get out, start a biz and see what affects profits and learn how to compete before they get on a faux high horse and bemoan profits.

WHO the F are they to decide what is the right % of net profit to make?

6721, you make a huge point. We need to stop looking at overseas wages through our "rich" US lens. We think those people are being taken advantage of, but their lives are financially improving. And not by a small margin. The net effect is huge. All built on wages we consider as "oppression". One of many things we are missing is that the cost of living of those places is also much lower, so $5000/yr buys them much more than it would in the US.
