Democrat Congresswoman that actually says something that makes sense

A democrat that actually said "Islamic Extremist Group". I didn't think I'd ever hear that. She probably will be reprimanded for that.

I wonder what she thinks about her Prez announcing that 50-100 special forces would be inserted into Syria? We're going to have boots on the ground, which comes one year after Obama said he would never put boots on the ground in Syria.

But honestly, what difference can 50/100 American Special Forces make in that mess? It seems to me like it's more for show than anything else.

You know I didn't see a lot of specifics about her when I was working in Hawaii while she was campaigning, but I will say that I heard a few things that made me think maybe she wasn't too bad if you're going to have a democrat in office. She seemed like a pretty rational and smart person. At least from the little bits that I heard of her.

Here's a link to an article that attempts to answer that question (Link). This is an op-ed by someone that takes a cynical view of US Foreign policy in general, but it is a reasonable argument. Hopefully he isn't right.

Basically, he asserts that the US are deploying the special forces to effectively become human shields. The goal is to protect US assets being used by anti-Assad forces (which may include Al Queda, Al-Nusra, etc.). Because the location of the special forces are unknown, perhaps the Russians will be hesitant in striking these assets in the event they take out Americans which could lead to further escalation.

If this isn't the premise behind the deployment, I agree with your assertion that 50 special forces "advisers" shouldn't make much difference.

Thanks Musberger.

You'd think we'd have learned our lesson about creating vacuums of power in the M.E. by toppling dictators. But, I guess not.
