Democracy/Freedom of Speech?

here's a novel idea, hornpharm--don't throw things at authorities, you don't get maced; don't brandish assault rifles in public, you don't get maced; don't sell drugs, rob, rape, etc. while attempting "peaceful protest", don't get maced or arrested.

But, continue to paint the message with the wrong color, good sir.

I can't figure out what good comes from these protesters staying at the parks after dark, or even after business hours have passed. It's not as if the Wall Street crowd hangs around to listen to their plight AFTER they're done trading and pilfering the 99%, right? Couldn't these protesters achieve the same result by heading home, showering, paying bills and enjoying some World Series games on TV, then grabbing their picket signs and reconvening the next morning? Seems to me that they'd avoid the thefts, rapes, drug dealings that I've read about happening at the "occupy" sites after dark.

Geez dalhorn, sounds kind of boring.

It hurts to see America do this to people who want change."

pissing and crapping in public, thuggery, stealing and a poorly executed communist manifesto isnt change i want to believe in nor what this country was founded on. i prefer we should live free to succeed or fail.

Pharm
do you still stand by your OP? Do you still think what the police did was worse than what was done in ME protests?

However tear gassing protestors hear in America for refusing to disperse is a good thing
__________________________________________________

it's not like they were peacefully protesting. there are rules to protesting in this country. you can't be violent for one thing, you have to do it in designated areas and i imagine once you start throwing stuff at police, the response isnt going to ber pleasant. the police have a duty to protect the public. I imagine a bank executive wouldnt feel too safe walking around in this free country through those "protestors." Besides, tear gas is noithing. you want to compare that to drawing swords and killing people? you are a moron. go back in your moms basement.

Roger, why switch the topic? Nowhere in the OP was there mention of the OWS being better or more popular or more productive than any Tea Party events. Do you simply have no defense for the missing leg that the OP is trying to stand on in trying to paint these events as a suppression of first amendment rights? Failed deflection on your part.

Second, do you get paid to post comments mentioning racism? You seem to bring it up in the most unrelated discussions.

The tea party protests were rich people / priveleged people. Obviously they are more American amd thus their rights matter more. If you don't realize this is the right wing mentality, then you never will

there are a few basic premises in life. One is don't throw things at police. Another is cease participation in a West Mall thread after a few Roger posts.

remember that chubby girl a few years back that blackened her own eye and branded/scarred her face, claiming that an anti-Obama crowd attacked her?

Both the OWS crowd and the OP on this topic remind me of her--searching high and low to create fake outrage.

Now, if the crowd was indeed attacked by police without provocation, like the OP promises us (and with factual documentation to back up his claim), then we've got serious problems to address.

Until there's real and honest squashing of democracy and freedom from these protesters, please get back in the black helicopters and sell crazy someplace else.

No one said they were "just standing around:" But how do you know they weren't anyway?

Do you dispute that the police tried to get them to leave and the response was getting pelted by rocks? And are you going to respond to the questions regarding rights to assemble trumping rights to access public areas without hygene issues being a factor? Or the right to go about your business without being harrassed?

indeed, prod, how is pharm so sure that the police weren't just doing their duty before the incidents began? Maybe he could tell us how the weather was out there that day, or if his fellow protestors smelled like patchouli or BO. Maybe he could get Sean Penn's autograph for me while he's out there on the front lines.....
