DeMarcus Cousins

Trying to keep up with DeMarcus Cousins' recruiting. It seems like he's no longer officially "committed" to UAB. If you'll recall, he refused to sign a Letter of Intent with UAB without written guarantee that he could get out of it if Mike Davis was fired. Anyway, it looks like he's now opened things up again. Texas has been listed as one of the top 2-3 choices, along with Memphis & Kentucky. Anyone know something to the contrary?

He's the top C prospect in the country, so it would definitely be a huge deal if he chose to come to UT. Looking at how the team has played this year, I would love to have a top flight PG more, but who's gonna turn down a 6'10", 260 lbs elite center prospect? He'd likely be a one-and-done, but it would make for a pretty exciting roster next year.

We have more quantity than quality. Cousins would be an upgrade over Hill, Chapman, or Wangmene. IF he were to come to Texas, I think he'd start along with Pittman on the frontline. And, being a one-and-done is not primarily based on how much PT a player gets and it's definitely not based on whether he starts or not. It's based on potential and Cousins's potential translates regardless of who else we might have on the roster.

Cousins isn't going to go to UT. It'd be a nice pipe dream, but the way basketball recruiting works, it's virtually impossible to get in on a top 5 type recruit unless a relationship on some level has been developed long before now in a player's recruitment.

The chances were better with Withey, and they weren't ever all that great there.

As far as a point guard, I hope they wait for Kabongo. I continue to feel like Balbay is going to develop into the kind of PG Texas needs, especially with Mason as the 2nd PG. Plus, having players like Bradley and Hamilton on the wings is going to change what Texas needs in terms of playmaking from the other positions on the floor.

It was hard not to like what Balbay did on Tuesday. If he could make one jumper this season, it would help. Doesn't even have to be a three...

And I think SLX is right in terms of what they'll need out of the PG next season.

I really hope we DON'T wait until 2011, which is when Kabongo is eligible, to sign a top PG. I would like somebody like Phil Pressey in 2010, at least. Unless Bradley is really adept (more so than Mason) at playing the point, we'd be facing a roster with only one true PG in Balbay. And, unlike most of you, I'm still not sold on Balbay being the answer. He's a great change of pace guy, but the fact that he has no outside shot whatsoever is a big problem.

It's a good question, skymonkeyhorn. Other than going to class, I don't know what Jordan Hamilton is doing. There was a big part of me kind of hoping he could enroll early in the spring, but I guess that wasn't ever going to happen.

There's a disappointment in me for the kid that the inability to play high school basketball this season is undoubtedly going to keep him out of the McD AA game. I look forward to him getting on campus.

I had not thought of the Mc AA game until you just mentioned it, that is sad to think about. Jordan had a great shot at making the AA team.
As I sat watching Paul Pierce play yesterday , Jordan must be taking notes because I saw more and more moves that Jordan goes to that are a carbon copy of Pierce.
Would have been nice if Jordan came in early and got used to UT.
Is Little Ray McCullum on our radar screen?

skymonkeyhorn, a college version of Paul Pierce is who I compare Jordan Hamilton to all the time.

As far as I know, Texas PG recruiting is all about Mytch Kabongo in 2011. Well, that and the announcement Sunday night.
