Dell Retail Stores

Did I see somewhere on this board a while back that there is a Dell store in Austin? A place which sells computers and parts directly to the public?

I know that you can order everything off the Internet, and get it shipped quickly, but at some point I am an old-fashioned, hands on shopper. I'm looking for a PDA, and want to compare.

Or is there a retail store in Austin that sells Dell PDAs, as well as other brands?

The Dallas Galleria has a kiosk, FWIW.

I may be wrong about this but I don't think you go to the kiosks and go home with a product. I think you can look at the products and hold them and play with them, but you actually just place an order and they have it shipped to you.

I guess that still meets your shoppng needs though.

Barton Creek Mall in Austin has a kiosk and O&W is correct: they don't sell anything to take home, just take orders for shipping. They had desktops, laptops, and all manner of LCD and HDTV monitors. Didn't notice any PDAs.

Dell kiosks are located at Barton Creek Mall and Lakeline mall in the Austin area. Both locations carry both versions of the Dell Axim, as well as all of the Dell TV's, MP3 players, printers, and nearly all models of their computers.

The reps there will assist you with placing an order on the Dell website and the item will be shipped to you afterwards. The locations will have exclusive discounts on Dell merchandise from time to time, so it's worth checking out if you are in the market.

Or so I've been told.....

If you're not set on having the absolute latest and greatest, there's a mom-and-pop place I've been buying from for years in Dallas that sells refurbished Dells. Right now they have a GX240 P4 1.8GHz with 20GB HD and 256MB RAM for $359. Pretty bare-bones, but a great deal for a rugged, expandable machine that's very cheap to upgrade memory and HD.

don't places like Best Buy or Fry's have PDAs and such that you can look at and even buy on the spot? I know you can get cell phones, computers, mp3 players, etc. Why not PDA's? or is it dell-specific - do those stores not carry dell products?

You can only get a new Dell product by going straight through Dell... That's how Dell keeps costs down.
