Dell Pocket DJ vs the IPOD

I am interested in gettin me a Dell Pocket DJ. I have looked into it some, and have not noticed many differences between that and the IPOD.

Do any of yall have any inside information on the two. I know that the Mac users will probably say go with the IPOD and that the PC users are gonna tell me go Dell(actually my roomate's step-dad who works at Dell said to go with the Pocket DJ, but didnt really give me a good reason why), so I would really appreciate some unbiased answers.

Anything helps.

Thanks

Man...the IPOD is one beautiful expensive mp3 player. The ease of use of the click wheel didn't really seem that much better to me than what's found on any other mp3 player. The Dell DJ seems like a good value for what you pay. It just doesn't look as cool as the IPOD. So which will it be? Looks or value? I'm deciding on that myself.

Oh yeah I looked at the Dell DJ/Pocket DJ, IPOD Mini, Ipod, and Zen Micro respectively.

I have a Dell and there is no doubt that the IPOD is better, you just have to decide whether it is better for the higher price that you will pay. Remember that the accesories for the IPOD are a lot more thant the dell so it isn't just the difference between the players themselves. I got the Dell when the IPOD was 399 for the 20 GB, whereas now it is 299 so I might go with the IPOD if i had to choose again.

ipod.

the interface for the DJ is too hard to control when working out and in the car (i have my ipod hardwired into my AUX input).

The only ****** thing is that the iPod battery DOES suck.

I have the dell pocket DJ....it's $50 less for 1 GB more storage than the Ipod mini....and for me that's the 2 main factors to consider when buying an MP3 player. You don't HAVE to use the musicmatch software for the Dell. You have to install it when you install the drivers for the DJ but then you can just copy and paste your music folder onto your DJ...it's easier. I like the PocketDJ alot...very light, easy to program and use, and the battery lasts about 8 hours.

i've had 2 ipods (10 gig and 40 gig photo now) and i am fully convinced that that this product kicks the **** out of anything else. yeah it's more expensive but i say well worth it.

ipod mini's battery is only supposed to last about 6 hours, so the dell pocket dj is $50 cheaper, has 1 gig more of storage, and the battery lasts 2 hours longer (roughly).

no, the specs say 8 hours. After about a year with a mini, mine will last about 5 hours, but i leave the light on, have EQ settings, and put the mode on shuffle, so that has wear on the battery.

Battery life doesnt really matter to me b/c i have a dock at home connected to my stereo, a USB to my home computer, a dock to my work speakers, and a Belkin charger in my car hardwired to the AUX unit, so the only time i'm ever using the battery is when i work out or travel.

I have a pocket DJ. I work out with it just fine (no problems with the dial). I would not trade it for anything.

Ipod is a fashion statement. People are convinced it is that much better, when in reality...it's not. And even if it is, it doesn't justify the higher price.

my girlfriend has an Ipod mini, I have the Dell Pocket DJ and I've gotten to use both.

Without a doubt, I would choose the Pocket DJ all over again. I actually think the interface on the Dell DJ is easier to use. I don't like the touch circle and having to be so gentle with it. The Dell DJ has easy to use play, forward, and rewind buttons.

Also, the software is easy since you just have to drag and drop any music files you already have on your computer.

Lastly, like everyone else said, the Dell DJ is cheaper, holds more music, and does have great battery life.

Dell players are just Creative players in different cases. I am a big fan of creative and have a 40gb zen xtra. I dont think you can go wrong with a Dell or Creative. F Ipod.

the main reason for using the ipod is the superior interface and the music mgmt of itunes.

i've tried the zen and pocket dj and their interface/software can't touch the ipod.

The ease of use of the scroll wheel isn't matched by any other mp3 player interface for browsing large music collections. What would be better would be voice recognition, but nobody's been able to do that in the small form factor. Browsing a large list of items is much easier with a single circular motion than other interfaces like simple buttons or scroll wheels which require to run your thumb back and forth, wasting half of your time.
