Dell 1700n laser printer Noise Question

So I purchased this printer earlier this week and I've had it in operation for two days. So far the print quality is excellent and speedy. However....I noticed that when it's in sleep mode, every now and then you hear the gears inside kick on for a few seconds like it's coming out of sleep mode, but it lasts for a second and nothing really happens with the printer. Anyone here have this printer and experienced the same annoyance? I just got the printer so I have 21 days to see if there's anything wrong with it. Also is this a charactersitic of laser printers?

I've had a HP 2500N color laser for over a year and it does the same thing.

really? damn...cause it's slightly annoying. Guess I'll have to get use to it.
