Delaware State Hornets (0-1) at #18 Texas Longhorns (1-0)

Austin, Texas; Friday, 8 p.m. Central Time

TV - LHN

"The No. 18 Longhorns host the Hornets. Texas took care of Incarnate Word 88-56 on opening night Nov. 6. Texas' Ithiel Horton, a three-time transfer who started with the Hornets' rival in Delaware, shot 50% from the floor with 17 points in that win."

CBS Prediction: Texas 80, Delaware State 54

Perkins (G, 6'2"), Robinson (G, 6'2"), and Staten (G, 6'1") are their top 3 scorers.

Andrews (F, 6'10", Sr. Detroit, Michigan) leads the Hornets on the boards. We need to hit the boards hard, as Andrews has some capabilities in that department.

From their loss to Penn St.:

DELAWARE STATE TOP PERFORMER: Forward Alston Andrews was able to use his 6-foot-10 frame to play some solid defense and have a bit of an impact on the glass. Andrews finished the game with four points on 1-of-5 shooting. He added eight rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal while turning the ball over one time and committing two fouls.

Alston Andrews led the Hornets (0-1) with four points and eight rebounds. Martaz Robinson also tacked on nine points and three steals and Jevin Muniz helped out with two points and two steals.

Delaware State falls 79-45 to Penn State - Delaware State University

Delaware State is not very good. Still, it will be interesting to see our big men (minus Disu) going against their capable forward Allston Andrews (6'10") down low.

They seem to be fairly athletic - a lot better than I expected. Granted too many turnovers by the Horns, but Delaware St don’t suck.

Muniz was pretty good. Alston Andrews was nothing special. Our bigs (especially Mitchell) can get it done.

Too many turnovers by the Horns. At least half of those were unforced. However, when the Horns catch fire they can put up points in a hurry. You can see the basketball skills improvement in Mitchell’s game to go with his off the charts athleticism. Horton was excellent from three tonight. The team is versatile on offense and is active on defense. Probably will have trouble against big physical teams defensively but should have the offensive firepower to stay in those games. Gonna take some time for the team to gel.

Finally got to watch it. Abmas is a star and he should be able to make some headlines as a FA pickup by an NBA squad at some point. I don't think he's destined for greatness at that size, but he was a big difference maker in this game.

Ditto on the turnovers. Most of them were plain ugly. I think they had some kind of directive to play fast and loose with the ball to see who could make things happen and no one really stepped up. It's a fun way to play against pitiful opponents, but I doubt we'll see a lot of that in the XII schedule.
