Delaware springs

First Time Poster
first time poster, long time lurker. notice that many of you play golf, so I thought I might ask for your help.

I have a tee time at Delaware Springs in Burnet on Thursday and wanted to know your thoughts on the layout, greens and difficulty. Any information is appreciated.

I thought it was a great course for the price. Not too difficult and in good condition. However it was several years ago when I played it, so take it for what its worth.

I love Delaware Springs. The layout almost perfectly utilizes the terrain and there are several challenging holes. In my opinion, it is the best municipal course around central Texas and possibly even the entire state.

Appreciate the layout when you are playing. Remember that the City of Burnet had a limited budget to build the course and you will be pleasantly surprised at the way they utilized the hills, trees and land. The architects did a fantastic job and the greens keepers keep it in above average shape, especially for a muni. Unless you hit it on a day where the round takes 5+ hours or they punched the greens or fairways, you should have a very enjoyable round and look forward to returning.

Only negative I can think of is if you play a couple of days after a heavy rain. (which you won't being you are playing tomorrow) But if you ever do, take heed that the mosquitos will be the same size as your golf ball and numerous. Oh, and if you hit in any of the "natural areas" of the course, watch out for Rattlesnakes.

My home course, where I play up to five times a week.

I agree with LonghornLib's appreciation of the land use.

Signature holes #16 and #1, I understand, were the first two designed and they are fine examples of utilizing interesting, existing terrain.

A well-maintained, 18 hole, municipal track, although I often play just nine holes late in the afternoon.

Starting to get more houses along the fairways, which makes the secluded, outdoors in the woods, nature experience a little less tranquil.

Most holes are still sans adjacent dwelling places, however.

In fact, only #1, 2, 9, 10 & 18 currently have human habitations.

Lots of fat, fairly tame, deer.

I've never seen a rattlesnake there, but I'm sure they've been aware of me.

I like the layout, the price, the convenience and the staff

Nice driving range and putting green..

Beer's available for there or to go from the snack bar, but there's no beer cart roaming the course.

Decent hamburgers and other food too.

It's in good condition, I played earlier today and yesterday.

Generally large greens and only a few narrow fairways.

Think about using a three wood off the tee on #1, 2, 8, 9 & 17 and maybe #15 & !8.

It's not Horseshoe Bay, but it's varied and challenging from the back tees and the daily greens fees are quite reasonable, as are all the yearly fees.

Have a good round and report back.

I knew LonghornLib would post on this thread.

I still need to get out there and play, but have heard nothing but great things about this course.
