Default program for displaying pictures and media?

Dell computer with XP. All of a sudden, it is now using Microsoft Picture-It as the default program for displaying pictures off internet or newsgroup. I want to select the program. How do I do so? Same thing for media player. It is now defaulting to Quicktime. Help!

right click the image file in Explorer, and select "Open With" and then "Choose Program." On that screen, there is a checkbox to make your change permanent.

so you got a jpg (for example) in a folder or sitting on your desktop. right click, select "open with" select ...get this..."choose program". this goes for any and all media.
