Everyone has there favorite default movies. Something that you can watch over and over again when there is nothing else on. Two of my favorites are on Netflix right now. Here are a few of mine.
Big Trouble in Little China
Back to School
Coming to America
For some reason every time Scott Pilgrim vs the World is on (which seems like every other day) I don't change the channel. I'm an old guy and I find it very entertaining and original - well, maybe not that original after seeing it a couple of dozen times.
A Christmas Story - It's on for 24 straight hours on Christmas Day and my tv remote does not get touched during this time.
I agree with many that have already listed their favorites. I'd also add:
Saving Private Ryan
Napolean Dynamite
Any Arrested Development episode (I know I'm cheating here)
Band of Brothers
The Lord of the Rings
Though I will add that it is extremely hard to watch movies on regular television these days as the commercial breaks are getting longer and longer. I timed one at 7 minutes the other day.
I know the stories by heart and know the endings. I chafe at moments of awkward dialogue and melodrama, but I still can't change the channel when I see Midway, Sink the Bismark! or 300 Spartans on the television.
I have seen "Inception" a dozen, or more times and it's another one of those movies that I can't stop watching. The ending is nothing short of brilliant. Should have taken home the Oscar in 2010.
I used to not think that highly of DiCaprio as an actor and I'm now I'm not quite sure why. Perhaps his boyishness kept me from taking him too seriously - that and the movie where the ship sank.
After "Departure" my view of him changed dramatically and with "Inception" he has become one of my favorite actors. I put him at the forefront of his generation.
I just discovered a little known facet of Lebowski.
Ever notice how much he looks like Jesus Christ what with the robe, the sandals, the beard and long hair? There are discussions about it, no clear consensus. It's definitely not an accident and it's not as obvious as a knock on Christianity. I'm going to have to see it again with this in mind and chew on it. This is just the very kind of **** why I love the entire Coen Bros. body of work.
