Decomposed granite: Pick-up or Dump truck?

I need 3 cubic yards of decomposed (pathway) granite for my yard. I can get all 3 yards delivered for cost plus a $45 delivery fee.

Or I can haul it myself in my Silverado half-ton. I guess that would take me three or four trips.

The landscape supply place is about 10 minutes from my house.

Dump truck or pick-up?

3-4 twenty minute round trips, assuming you don't have to wait in line at each trip. Plus the time and effort to scoop it out of your truck when you get to the house. Plus, that stuff is really heavy, especially if it has been exposed to the recent rain.

$45 is a bargin. You can begin your project instead of driving back and forth.

The effort to unload the granite from your pickup is worth having the dump truck drop it alone. That is some heavy stuff.

Yeah, $45 is a steal. I'd take it and run.

Think of it this way. What's your hourly rate at work? It is worth 2-3 hours of your time to load and unload that stuff rather than just have it dumped where you want it for you? For me, no. I'd actually save money/time by having it delivered.

I have a Silverado 1500 and was able to put about a yard in at at time of decomposed granite. It took me two trips, but my walkway is probably shorter than yours.

I'd have it delivered, but they will dump it all in one spot (which may not be where you want it), and you always run the risk that they won't show up when you want, and you'll be burning daylight hours. It happened to me twice with the stone guys. If I had picked up the stone myself, I would have saved a LOT of time.

On a side note, I don't suppose you're in Dallas near the Lake Highlands area are you? I've got about .25 yard still remaining in the back of my truck (too lazy to find a place to dump it) that you're welcome to have Free of Charge.

Thanks for the offer but I live in Austin.

I think I'll have it delivered. I did not consider the time and effort of unloading three loads from my truck, not to mention the drive back and forth.
