if he had come back for another year he probably would have gotten banned from the NBAssociation

this makes sense if you're drunk

He WOULD have left any school after only one season, so I'm not going to say A&M did something to his draftability. That's on him.

I will say, however, that A&M's decision to hire Jordan's AAU coach did not help their cause at all, in terms of getting him to work hard and commit himself to the team. So they should be shouldering some of the blame for that.

Watching Jordan I thought he needed 1 or 2 more years of college and could be a very good NBA player. He has the tools to develop but won't be an instant star.

The guy needs polish and lots of it. Bilas's best comment on him was how poor of a shooter he was from the FT line and that it's rare one improves so dramatically. He'll never be a 15-foot-and-out guy, but if he can develop some sort of 10-12 foot shooting range he'll be really good because he is so long. But he has a long, long way to go.

His post-up skills are pretty good, and he has good quickness for a guy his size. He wasn't a 5-star guy for nothing, but he can't just shoot worth a lick. At pick #35, he's a great value.

I take no pleasure in Jordan falling, but I'm encouraged. Apparently NBA execs are not completely insane. Each time I saw him described as "potential lottery pick" I thought I was hallucinating.

Call me crazy, but I don't think he will ever actually play in the NBA. He could end up in D-league or in Europe, but he does not have the mental fortitude to play in the NBA, potential be-damned. We're talking about a kid who moped his way through his only year of college (especially after Turgeon refused to start him), pouted on the bench by himself after getting ousted from the tournament, and completely disrespected NBA team representatives with his attitude in predraft meetings (essentially job interviews) and workouts.

He has zero work ethic. He wants to be a star and be a millionaire without having to put in the work, and it just doesn't happen that way. I don't feel sorry for him at all. People can say it's his agent's fault or it's Turgeon's fault or it's his high school coach's fault or whatever. But that's crap. Responsibility for his career lies with DeAndre. He is the one who has thrown it away.

Yea, 2nd rounders aren't guaranteed contracts, nor it there a salary structure. They are pretty much no risk picks. Put him in summer league. See what he can do, if he works hard and takes to the coaching. If he looks promising, sign him to 2 years, team option for the 2nd, stash him in the D-league. No big deal.
