HBO is rerunning the Deadwood series. If you loved Tombstone, you will love this series. Ian McShane is gold.

Deadwood is ******* genius. Tombstone is an overrated movie that should be considered more of a guilty pleasure. How can so many people think that it's some Western classic? I've never understood the obsession.

Definitely an appropriate time for the apples and oranges statement.

I've only seen a couple of Deadwood episodes, but I can see that it's a great show. Tombstone was a great movie, IMO. But they are not the same type of Western. Not even close.

i liked deadwood but about 30% of the time i had a hard time understanding what they were talking about.

i watched the first episode of the first season and didn't understand about 60%. then i missed a couple episodes and i just gave up on it.

Tombstone was fun. It would have been better if they got rid of all the super sappy lame-*** love interest stuff. Still, fun and quotable.

Deadwood is pure genius; executed to perfection. So pissed they aren't finishing the series.

LAk, I had the same experience. Deadwood's dialog was not easy to tune into, but I forced myself to stick it out for a few more episodes. Then I got hooked.

Is there a Deadwood comparable? Difficult to compare it to anything but if I had to, I would say Band of Brothers. I chose to address the Tombstone audience due to the similar times and nomenclature in US history.

If you are new to Deadwood, you will love the writing, direction and the actors. Brad Doriff is also gold. As is Powers Boothe. And many other lesser known actors who you will know from Milch's John From Cincinatti on HBO.

Maybe that is the most comparable, but most people who watch John from Cincinatti were die-hard Deadwood fans. Lots of people know Tombstone.

Al Sweringen is the Greatest HBO character of all time!

Followed by:

2 - Titus Pullo
3 - Brian Ben Ben
4 - Hank Kingsley
5 - Tony Soprano

It's much, much easier to follow, understand and appreciate the dialog on "Deadwood" or "The Wire" when you use the English subtitles available on DVD.

Without reading the subtitles, using only my ears, I found it difficult to understand enough dialog to enjoy either show.

Using the subtitles, I watched every episode of each season of both and really enjoyed and understood everything.

you know, it's funny, but Omar could have easily been a character in Deadwood.

Omar wouldn't have put up with Hearst's ********.
