Deadliest Catch

This week looks like the beginning of the end for Captain Phil; he was taken off the Cornelia Marie on a gurney after apparently suffering a stroke.

After watching what happened with Jake the week before, they either have some very creative editing going on or masterful timing.

Yeah, the rest of the season will cover his downslide and eventual death. I am not sure if he actually passed before the end of opie season or not though, but watching after the catch has been rough. Thank God Mike Rowe is back for that show!

I absolutely love the show. I think this new aspect of getting worn out by the grind is very interesting and poignant. It's not just Captain Phil's passing I'm referring to. Edgar Hansen is getting physically and emotionally worn out and reflecting on his priorities. Johnathan Hillstrand has also decided it is time for a break and him and his brother Andy are instituting succession plans with Mike Fourtner and Scotty Hillstrand. Phil's son Jake has addiction issues to work through without his father's support to rely on. It is all tremendously engaging.

if the actual physical job of crab fishing doesnt kill you, the lifestyle of a crab fisherman will.

Everyone smokes on that show. I am guessing the meals on the boats are not all that healthy either. Add sleep deprivation.

As I recall from a past season, mealtimes are so random that when they do get to eat, they try and get like 6000-8000 calories. Bacon, eggs, sausage, waffles, french toast, potatos, all in one sitting. They load up because they don't know when they will eat again.

I will definitely be watching as well. To go along with what was said above, this season has been pretty captivating with how the strain of the job has taken its toll on every boat

Lately, I have read numerous accounts of retired football players physical, emotional and financial struggles in their later years. I'm talking about dudes like Bernie Kosar, Kyle Turley, Earl Campbell and so forth. It makes me wonder what would be revealed if they shed some light on retired crab fishermen's lives in their 50's, 60's and 70's. What is left for these men after they leave the industry? They make pretty good dough, but not near what modern NFL types pull down. Is it really worth it?

Man, i called my Dad after the episode to say i loved him.

The scene with Josh and his Dad were tough. The scene with Jake and his Dad were tough.

Had me in tears.
