The recruiting "Dead Period" began today and runs through Wednesday, Jan 13. "Once the dead period begins, face to face meetings are not allowed, even if the recruit is on campus. They are only permitted contact through letters or phone calls to the recruit or parent. A coach is limited to one phone call per recruit per week."

Getting new coaches Gilbert and Mattox here in time for the last contact weekend was good as they took full advantage of the limited time. Per another poster:
Per Wilkerson:
"Just got word from Baylor OT commitment J.P. Urquidez who tells me that Matt Mattox stopped by his house today for an in-home.

J.P. said that he has legit interest in the Longhorns after this visit. Annnnnnd, he tells me he'll take an OV to UT sometime in January."

Per Higs:
"New OL coach is with [Zach] Shackelford now or just wrapping up." Mattox is putting in work!

"OB confirms that Gilbert met with [QB Riley] Ferguson today. Gilbert told him that the Texas staff was meeting on Monday and would decide whether or not to offer him."

It's now the off-season for Texas Longhorns Football. Gonna be a long one with no bowl game looming.

Two months to go until NSD... two new O coaches... lots of 'cruitin' to do...

Higs on radio --

He thinks the weekend of Jan 16 "will be the biggest OV Texas has seen in 4 years"

He thinks we have a shot at a top 5/top 10 class

This sounds ominous...

Higdon is reported to have said, "I do need to mention we could see a boulder dropped in the pond that could cause some not so nice ripples for Texas...lot of stuff going on..."

No specifics or hints were mentioned.

Another war going on out there -- be safe ......

Ketch on Higs:

"Lol" -responding to 5-10 recruiting class

"I don't want to come across like a bad guy for saying this, but there's only one guy in the market whose entire employment and relevancy in this market hinges on Charlie having success and staying in Austin.

Perhaps Texas finishes with a top 5 group, but consider where that optimism comes from."

"He's also been wrong about a lot of things. If he worked at OB, his feet would be held to the fire in a way it doesn't at other sites."

"t's one thing to have a source and it's another to be completely married to it. If Charlie is out of here in a year, his value in this industry takes a dive. He's the biggest homer this market has known in the 20 years I've been here. He's the a media version of Bill Little. It's important to remember these things when discussing narratives.

You can call me an $#@! for pointing out truths, but it's time we start having honest conversations with a guy who abuses access to the program by having almost zero couth when it comes to protecting those that put food on his table."

" Correct me if I'm wrong:

As soon as John Burt decommitted last year, he killed the kid, basically called him a jag and said that the guys the staff were lining up as his replacement were much better, only to act like that never happened when Burt re-committed.

He laughed off suggestions that Gilbert would be a candidate and mocked those that mentioned it as a possibility.

Higdon's response:

And when they ink a top 10 class he can call me, these guys said the same thing when I said they would last year. So when it happens again this year he can call me and own up like a man but I know that won't happen...

Well, is this true or not? This allegation is probably easily proven if someone looked up the comments....

Devwah Whaley and Davion Curtis: Both Central (TX) RB Devwah Whaley and Texas WR commit Davion Curtis planned to officially visit Texas last weekend. They had to reschedule due to testing. I was told they plan to officially visit Texas on January 16th. Which is shaping up to be an even bigger recruiting weekend than this past weekend was. Whaley says he is likely to make his final commitment on January 2nd at the Under Armour All-America game. If Whaley doesn’t make his commitment at the UA Game, I’d expect him to wait until near or on NSD. Texas still seems to be the clubhouse leader for Whaley, but don’t count out Arkansas. They have a lot less depth at RB going into 2016, unlike Texas. Also, Arkansas brought almost their entire staff, including HC Bret Bielema to Whaley’s house on Sunday night for an in-home visit. It seems like a two horse race for the talented RB

He was going to announce today but delayed (same as yesterday if I understand it correctly)
He liked BYU but they have a coaching issue at moment
And, even though he is a Mormon from Hawaii, he did work in Texas last summer

Nahlin takes a shot at rest of the class --

GUESSING THE CLASS

QB Shane Buechele
FB Demarco Boyd
WR Collin Johnson, Reggie Hemphill, Davion Curtis
TE Peyton Aucoin
OL Tope Imade, Denzel Okafor
DT Gerald Wilbon
DE Andrew Fitzgerald, Malcolm Roach
DB Obi Eboh

That's 12 but we expect the class to double by Signing Day which makes for an exciting finish. Excitement leads to momentum and players start hopping aboard when they otherwise might not.

RB Devwah Whaley
TE Irvin Smith
OL Zach Shackelford
OL Jean Delance
OL Patrick Hudson (or Urquidez)
DT Michael Williams
DT Jordan Elliott
FOX Mark Jackson
LB Jeff McCulloch
LB Dontavious Jackson
DB Chris Brown
DB Eric Cuffee
DB Brandon Jones
DB Damarkus Acy

I'm a bit optimistic on Elliott but only because I think landing others in Houston re-opens that door.

Mark Jackson committed to A&M but I believe that's because Texas didn't pursue him nearly as hard. Rahssan Thornton will stick with LSU so now's the time to push for Jackson, especially with A&M's issues. McCulloch fits as a Fox too.

Texas doesn't need five DB's in the class but Acy and Brown will be hard to turn down. I'd like to see another WR as well, but Texas has two potential difference makers at quarterback that you couldn't account for previously in Jerrod Heard and Kai Locksley. One of those guys HAS to by the end of the spring unless they make incredible leaps. They're too good athletically to ride the pine and this should affect recruiting numbers.

All the negative should be behind the program. There won't be any more poor losses. The drama behind the coaching search process is over in any way that would hurt recruiting dramatically. It's time to sell this program, and even with the poor season there's still reason for hope; specifically the 2015 class and a new offensive system which should unearth a quarterback.

DT from Trinity
247 Composite shows 6'3, 300 - No. 19 DT national and No. 26 overall prospect in the state
