DB's

I just don't have a clue why the coaches insist on playing the same guys every week. Not only that, I don't believe Gideon and Thomas left the field last night. Thomas is horrendous and Gideon plays FS like he's chasing a ball to deep center field on every freaking play. Don't even get me started about Chykie Brown. Brewster.......Scott....Wells......Curtis Brown.....all of these guys were highly rated recruits who have barely seen playing time this year. If they are not as good as what's out there now, they were either overrated as recruits or are collectively in the doghouse.

Muschamp complained this week that he's not pleased. That's makes two of us, Will. And yet, the same 5 DB's played almost the entire game last night. Now, I realize they are young and we've been thru this before with Jammer, Westbrook, Huff, Griffin, Ross, etc.... However, the one BIG difference is those guys, for as many mistakes as they made as freshmen, would make a huge play once in a while. This current group doesn't. I believe this unit has one pick this year. ONE???? Are you freaking kidding me? Scary to think what ou, Mizzou, and Tech will do.

Deep breath and count to 10 Bevo-Stevo! We are simply watching growing pains, as you even noted about Huff,Griff and Ross went through the same thing...but go back to OU in 03 and watch Ced Griff and Huff just get abused by Bradley and co. It's going to be rough, and these guys are getting coached very well by Muschamp and Akina. These guys are just like the pick of a litter from champion bloodlines, they're going to piss and **** all over the place, chew up shoes and furniture, but one day they're going to grow up and be bad asses. We're going to see some rough times over the next couple of months, but I think we all know that we're about a year away from making our run to another NC, and these very DB's will be a huge reason why.

Ok, genius, who exactly is supposed to play then? You just outed the entire secondary. Are they going to spin-up some linebackers? Spin-down some towel boys?

omg, what do you want from these guys? they are freshmen! and they're still better than the safeties we had last year. reset your expectations my brother.

I didn't out anyone. They out themselves on a weekly basis. As far as who else should play? Re-read my post and figure it out. My concern is not only the lack of plays the current group does not make, but the lack of a chance anyone else is given to make one.

Yes we will be going through some growing pains but we heard so much of Earl Thomas during the off season and I haven't seen any signs of that potential.

I was on Thomas last game, but granted he is a frosh as well and we should expect some growing pains. Chykie was a little loose in man coverage early in the game. I thought Beasley played well when he got reps. Aaron Williams is a true frosh and is getting reps in 2nd half of every game so I think as season comes along we will see more of him.

Is Cu Brown injured b/c you don't see much of him? In 4th qtr I am pretty sure they were playing 3rd string and walkons b/c I saw a couple names I have never seen before.

Muschamp is bring the LB's up to the line quite a bit. Many disguised blitzes and sometimes they do drop back into coverage but I do think this is having an impact on the pass coverage and leaving the middle of the field open. He is bring pressure on the QB and stopping the run, but the give and take is that the defense is giving up quite a bit in pass yards which makes the secondary look bad at times.

All this being said, I don't think you can ask for a better set of games thus far giving these young DB's many reps and looks at spread offenses. what great preparation this is for Colorado, Mizz, OU, Tech, and Kansas. The defense isn't forcing turnovers which I would like to see more of but they are making stops and keeping points off the board.

I'm pretty sure Muschamp is savvy enough to play the best of what he feels we have. These guys are young, still inexperienced, and will have to learn on the fly.

UF had the same problem last year and struggled. Now they're looking pretty good.

Patience is the best thing you can have when watching freshman play.

Does anyone have any real, unemotional insight on Wells not seeing more time? He looked like such a badass prevously in the spring games.
I'm fully aware the coaches know how to pick the best group, just curious if there is a major issue with Ben.

My gosh Steve. So much hate. First of all, Thomas will no doubtely get better. Gideon is a player for sure. He may not be the fastest but he's sure minded. Chykie had a hell of a game last night imo. He really is starting to get better and you can see it. Beasley is Beasley and he is finally getting back into the groove of things. Palmer still isn't great but knows how to play the game.

This may be one of those situations where there is no magic bullet. The real problem is not that the coaches are not playing the best players in the secondary but that that there were so few experienced DBs available this season.

Probably the best chance that UT has in defending the pass against the mega offenses in the Big 12 is to apply brutal pressure on the QB (lots of zone blitzes). The young DBs should also improve quite a bit since they are so young they have nowhere to go but up. Having said that, the UT seconary is the single biggest problem that the UT coaches have to solve.

i actually think our secondary is not playing that bad. we have given up very few points. we give up yards but that appears to be the muschamp strategy. once teams get to a shorter field we have shut them down because the packages change at that point.

granted, we are not playing great teams, but we are playing better teams than we did last year and i think rice was a decent test, they gave vande all they could handle last week and they are a ranked sec team.

i have noticed improvement every week. unfortunately, we simply will not know anyhting until the road game at colorado.

this is by far the best team since the 05 team. i think we are a better team than everyone on our schedule other than ou. at the start of the season, i didnt give us much of a chance against them, but i really think our offense can score some points against them and possibly win. it should be a high scoring game as many of them will be this year. it is simply too tough to beat these spread offenses. they will get their yards. those that thought muschamp was going to come in and put up an auburn defense in the first year were foolling themselves.

first of all, the sec runs a lot of conventional offenses and those that dont put up a lot of yards and points last year...see kentucky, fl, etc.

i love this season and it is going to be a fun conference run.

The op is almost like a hangover post from the linebacker situation last year where there were sophomores and juniors not getting playing time many thought they deserved. We don't have that kind of depth at DB, they're all freshman.

Leaving the best guys in for as long as possible seems to me to be the best way to get them experience. A merry-go-round of freshmen might keep them all inexperienced, no?
