DB options

as one of the top concerns (OL and RB being #1a and #1b), the DB recruiting board seems pretty wide open. we've got Scott, the #1 CB in the state, and Evans, the #1 S in the state, committed. Thompson, a rising prospect and a good take IMHO, will probably be a S as well. we clearly need at least 1 more CB. Griffin has committed to TCU, possibly because he saw the writing on the wall for a numbers crunch. We have Charles Jackson, Eric Agbaroji, Nick Shepard (yes THAT Shepard) and Frank Shannon coming for jr day #2, not to mention Quandre Diggs. we've got to have at least one offer (and probably commit) out of that bunch... right?

well now Avery Walls, a stud S from georgia has come in for an unofficial visit, and we know Josh Turner, the stud CB from OKC has talked about leaving OK (ala Cobbs last year).

this seems to be the flip problem from OL. we've got studs committed, and now where to find room for more studs... versus OL where we're loading up on "pretty good" guys that could have waited to get an offer (especially some one with a broken leg on crutches who had to be wheeled into visit mack ughhh).

I would say we at least have mediocre players set at RB while cornerback is just lacking in numbers altogether?

I think we need to take 5 DBs this year. We can't miss at this position. OL is a position of need but I would specifically say OG is the biggest overall position of need.

At DB in 2010 we will have:
Chy Brown (Senior)
Cu Brown (Senior)
Williams (Junior)
Scott (Junior)
Gideon (Junior)
Brewster (Junior)
Wells (Junior)
Vaccaro (Soph)
Barnett (RS Frosh)

Incoming HS Frosh:
Byndom
Jackson
White

Thus in after 2010 we lose both Brown's and possibly Aaron Williams. That is our top 3 DBs right there. We will bring back Scott, Gideon, Brewster, Wells, Vaccaro, Barnett and we will see how the 3 young guys develop this year as well. Barnett is the only returning CB besides the 3 youngsters coming in of which I am not sure what position they will play. But even if 2 of them play CB you will only have 3 CBs total in 2011. Thus we have may have to play 2 true frosh at the CB position in 2011 in order to have adequate depth.

Glad to see we already got 1 "stud" and 1 "rising star" at the position. I'll take 2 more studs before they close the books.

5 dbs is possible. then again 5 or 6 ol commits are possible too.

'that' shepard is the brother of our former beloved recruit russell shepard.

I thought christian scott was gonna be a RS sophomore next year, not a junior. Still doesnt change the facts that we need dbs this year.

With Akina coaching the secondary, it seems Texas has become DB U. Imagining the Longhorns defense being thin at DB is like imagining west Texas or Saudi Arabia running low on proven crude oil reserves.

The loss of Earl (early) to the NFL makes it imperative to keep the DB recruiting spigot running full open, since our top/best players don't necessarily stick around after 3 years anymore.
