Day 2 of draft

Probably one of the big dollar teams he was looking for, so that lessens the chance that he returns to Texas.

You hit it on the head, Red Five. There's a reason the coaching staff kept giving him a chance, even though he couldn't throw strikes or get anybody out. He probably had the most electric stuff on the staff. Kyle would be smart to jump on this opportunity, and I hope for his sake, he gets it turned around at the next level. From what I know of him, he's a great kid on top of being a talent.

someone was wondering yesterday about JP Ramirez from Canyon. Just went 15th round to the Nationals

Jungmann is still on the board

Wow, is about all I can say.

Still can't get too excited about this, because the Angels do have money. If Taylor really lights it up this summer, they may decide to offer him stupid money to sign before the deadline.

However, he has been lighting it up all spring. When I saw him a couple weeks ago in a playoff game, he was touching 94 and just carving people up. So the fact that he was taken in the 24th almost certainly means signability was a huge issue.

A stable of arms that includes Wood, Ruffin, Kasparek, Boening, Green, Thomas, Workman, Belt, Dicharry and Jungmann is really something to be pumped about - assuming Kenn does return. Arm strength certainly won't be a problem. Nine of those 10 guys can touch 90, with Workman and Jungmann capable of touching mid-90s. And the one who doesn't throw as hard as the others, Wood, was right there with Ruffin as the most reliable arm on the staff at the end of the year.

And Dicharry's pitching mate at Collins, the big lefty, Stafford, is nothing to sneeze at. He will be in Austin in the fall, too.

I am very surprised that Austin did not get drafted. I was afraid that the knee injury in the regional was going to keep Preston from being drafted.

Preston's injuries and age are not in his favor. He might have to do walk on's when he's healthy.

based on the draft, any of you experts wanna offer up some opinions on who is staying and who is going. Who our likely starters will be. How good we will be. Thanksk for those with the expertise to provide guidance.

I would like to see that as well. Maybe start a new thread dedicated to predictions for next year.

On the radio, Augie was very excited about next year. I assume he expects most of the team to return.

Russell and Danks are most likely gone and Walker and Kasperek are definite possibilities. I think Walker goes and KK stays. Moldenhauer probably stays. Our starters will probably be:

C - Rupp
1B - Belt
2B - Tucker
SS - Hernandez
3B - Clark
LF - Moldenhauer
CF - Davis or Lusson
RF - Lusson or Keyes

SP - Ruffin
SP - Wood
SP - Kasperek (depending on whether or not he stays) or Jungmann

Did Russell M get drafted? Not sure he was eligible?

I'd bet alot of money Walker is gone, KK too.

Isn't Grossman likely to come?

Walker will leave for sure because he can't afford another bad season. KK might come back because he could still improve his stock if he shows that he is more consistent. He could easily be gone though. Grossman will be here as he was drafted much later than most thought which usually menas signability is an issue. Jungmann also for the same reasons.

I think Grossman and Jungmann are likely to come.

If Kenn doesn't get a good offer right away, I'd expect him to head to a summer league. If he pitches well there, he'll see a higher offer.

Beau Vine hits it again.

And I think Cervenka is a risk to sign.

Jungmann and Dicharry should both see a lot of action as freshmen. I would expect both to be middle relief/spot starter types, if they don't bust into the weekend rotation.

Perfect storm would be for Ruffin-Kasparek-Wood-Boening to be going well and be the top 4 starters, for Workman-Jungmann-Dicharry to be ready to go behind those 4, and to have Thomas & Green throwing short relief. That's a pitching staff full of quality arms.

And an excellent point, as always, from Sua Sponte. I fully expected Tech to be much more competitive than they were this year. Had to be some underlying things going on there. They were too talented in a lot of areas to stink it up like they did.
