This might not be the right board for this thread, but I couldn't find a spot I thought it really fit. I wanted to see if anyone here had ever been to David's BBQ in Arlington. If you have what is your take on this very popular restaurant in the center of the Metroplex?
yes sir, i grew up in arlington and went to church around those parts so davids was a place my family ate at quite often. its actually in a little area called pantego, but it is basically arlington.
i have yet to find better barbecue. the same people have been running that place forever, its pretty neat.
Benson, I grew up in Pantego actually, so I know it is its own town, but I figured no one else would know where Pantego was. Yea, Jimmy, (the guy normally cutting the meat) is related to the Bryan family of Dallas BBQ fame. I haven't really found any I like better. They have the best BBQ beans I have ever put in my mouth. Not to mention the fresh fried okra... that stuff might clog arteries, but it is the best fried okra around.
yeah, everytime ive eaten there (50x at least) jimmy has been behind the counter. same with the older lady at the cash register. they greet you like family. havent tried the fried okra, i will be sure and do that next time im in town.
This may sound terrible, but I usually get the ham sandwich there. I really am not a huge ham eater, but their's is tremendous. Esp. since you can slice your own cheese off of that big block they have there. I usually get the ham sandwich with beans and the fried okra. I am kinda surprised you haven't gotten the okra there. You might want to split it with someone though. it is a big paper basket full.
Resurrecting a three week old thread here, but I live less than a mile from David's, so I felt I should add to this.
I went there tonight, and I sure as heck ought to go more often. I had remembered reading this thread so I took THEU's advice and got a ham sandwich and okra. I think I like the sliced brisket sandwich better, but I'll swear the ham sandwich they gave me had almost two inches of sliced ham piled up. The okra was very good also.
I don't eat barbeque that often, which is why I tend to ignore this place even though it's literally right down the Park Row hill from me. For anyone who remembers Arlington in the 80's I think David's is run by the same family that had Red Bryans Barbeque on N. Collins.
Incidentally, there's a great Italian place right across the street from David's called Tony's Italian Grill. They are probably the reason I don't go to Daves any more often.
Hornian, I can promise you if it takes you that long to get to David's from Austin then there was a big wreck on I35. Also, I started this thread here as I couldn't find a more appropriate board.
